Could RockNAmerica have been any better? Not if you were an HOH winner!!

One of our winners at RockNAmerica this year was Mark Porrovecchio of Oregon, who brought his friend Mark of California – we called them “Mark and Mark” all weekend and the bands they met got a big kick out of that! Here’s what Mark #1 had to say about his experience at the show:

How do you summarize an experience like Rock-n-America? You can’t. But I can give you a sense of just how incredible it was. Spending four days with my buddy from grade school, Mark, is always a good time. However, that is nothing compared with how we had a great time. HOH flew my friend and I to OKC and set us up at the Stone Garden Hotel. For four solid days we went through the rabbit hole and came out in a spandex clad and peroxide drenched Strangeland. We met the Scorpions, L.A. Guns, Ratt, Slaughter, and Cinderella. We stood only a few feet away while John Corabi tore it up on the side stage. We were witness to the surprise guest—Vince Neil—during Slaughter’s set. We got a chance to meet Steelheart, Warrant, Lizzy Borden, and Trixter as they mingled with fans at the after parties each evening in the festival hotel.

You take all of that and you are close to having lived out a metal dream. However, none of it compared to meeting Twisted Sister and getting to stand on the stage as they slammed through their set. From “Come Out and Play” to “I Wanna Rock” Dee and the guys had the audience in the grip of their metal horned hands. There were thousands of fans there. But Twisted Sister made it feel like they were hosting a party for two friends. Thanks to Dee, Pam, and all of the HOH staff who helped to make our dream come true. It was metal . . . and it was awesome.

I’d like to second what Mark said. It was truly a remarkable experience for both of us. We are just so grateful that we had an opportunity like this. You and your staff were so unbelievably great. Sometimes we hear horror stories about contest winners not getting what they won or being treated rudely, etc. Not in any case did this happen to us. I also felt being able to listen to all the stories the HOH staff have all weekend and being able to talk to you guys about music and everything else in general on our last night was extremely cool and it really made the whole trip end on a personal level. Thank you once again for a memorable weekend of sex, drugs and rock and roll, minus the sex and drugs part of course!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR ROCK N AMERICA CONTEST TRIP WINNER!

Congrats to our big HOH winners John “Ozzy” Millard and his sister Joann Johnson, who will be joining metalheads from all 50 states (and from across the globe) in Oklahoma City for the festival, which kicks off on July 22nd with a free concert featuring bands with local ties.

John’s wife, Jennifer, actually sent in the winning entry and touched on all the things that warm our hearts: family, a birthday surprise, a great nickname, major metal fandom, pure selflessness and getting through this bad economy. John, you now owe Jennifer BIG TIME! See the winning entry below…

Things kick into gear on July 23rd and for the next 2 days with performances by theScorpions, Cinderella, Twisted Sister, Ratt, Lita Ford, Dokken, Warrant, Great White, Slaughter, Michael Schenker Group, LA Guns featuring Tracii Guns, Firehouse, Bulletboys, Lynch Mob, Steelheart, Faster Pussycat, Enuff Z Nuff, Herman Rarebell formerly of Scorpions, Axe, Trixter and more.

For Friday’s show, $5.00 from every ticket sold will go to the Ronnie James Dio Cancer Fund. Go to www.rocknamerica.com for tickets and to read up on camping sites, hotel accommodations (plenty), after parties/nightclubs, meet n’ greets and more. There’s still plenty of time to get there and join the HOH staff as we rock our asses off!

Hey…one more late announcement – there will be after-parties each and every night at the Official RockNAmerica hotel, the Stone Garden. Also, on Friday night, you can hang out with the Bulletboys and Faster Pussycat downtown OK at America’s Pub in Bricktown. Really…can this get any better??

WINNING ENTRY:

I’m entering this contest as a birthday surprise for my husband, John “Ozzy” Millard and his sister and best friend, Jo Ann. They are heavy metal heads from the 80’s – used to hang out at L’Amours in NYC. They stay true head bangers to this day, even into their 40’s, and party way heartier than most 20 year olds. John rocked the heavy metal long hair for years, even after working his way up from messenger boy to Associate on Wall Street. Finally, he cut the hair, but did not cut the nickname of Ozzy. My husband would do anything for anyone. He’s a hard working guy who brings home the bacon and supports me and our twin daughters. He never complains, and he always keeps an upbeat spirit. He always thinks first about his family and friends, and never does anything for himself! He hasn’t been to a heavy metal show since I bought him Judas Priest tickets ages ago when we were dating, but he’s taken me to see my favorite bands several times. I know it’s not where his heart is, but he does it because I am where his heart is. I’m a stay at home mom, and could never afford to treat him to such an experience myself, so, I’m hoping this contest will come through for us! Please, please… Pretty please? Rock On, Jen
