Mötley Crüe Pulls The Plug

January 28th, 2014

You knew it was coming! After a career spanning over 33 years, Mötley Crüe has decided to call it quits following a two-year long Final Tour.

The band made the announcement during a global press conference today (1/28) in Los Angeles, where singer Vince Neil, bassist Nikki Sixx, guitarist Mick Mars and drummer Tommy Lee signed a “Cessation of Touring Agreement,” a binding document that (supposedly) makes legal their claim to stop any touring beyond The Final Tour. That’s it. No reunions. Nada. Done! Well, so they say now anyway…

Joining the Crüe for its last hurrah is none other than the legendary Alice Cooper, who takes the opening slot. The tour kicks off in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on July 2 before heading out across North America for 72 dates then overseas in 2015. Check out the just-announced dates at the House of Hair website.

“When it comes to putting together a new show we always push the envelope and that’s part of Mötley Crue’s legacy,” said Nikki Sixx. “As far as letting on to what we’re doing, that would be like finding out what you’re getting for Christmas before you open the presents. We think in an age of too much information, we’d like to keep some surprises close to our chest until we launch The Final Tour.”

“Everything must come to an end,” said Tommy Lee. “We always had a vision of going out with a big f***ing bang, and not playing county fairs, or clubs with one or two original band members. Our job here is done.”

Alice Cooper said of the Crüe, “Real hard rock bands are hard to find these days. Mötley has always gone on stage with one attitude and that’s to blow the audience away. That’s exactly how we do it. Putting Mötley Crüe and Alice Cooper together is going to be just what this summer really NEEDS. We’re going to go out there and tear it up, and I can’t wait to see Mötley on stage. Mötley Crüe and Alice Cooper — A match made in…Armageddon?”

You can catch the band performing on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight and they’ll also appear on CBS This Morning tomorrow (1/29).
