I’m requesting Iron Maiden’s “Aces High” because, well, there are numerous reasons, but I’ll keep it shorter than my original reason: Iron Maiden, and Bruce Dickinson in particular, are extremely epic. They are my favorite band, and Bruce’s hair and his voice are like the most epic things ever to exist. I’m listening to the HOH right now, so in honor of Dave Murray’s 24/7 smile, play it! And if it ain’t metal, it’s crap!

What’s New This Week – Nov. 29, 2010
November 29, 2010
We are rollin’ into Dee-cember, ‘bangers…my favorite month…and you know what that means: holiday shopping insanity, family fist fights, and extra 10 pounds on your gut, with some heavy holiday music to make it all the more intense! There’s a recipe for disaster!
Pretty Maids, Quiet Riot, Black Sabbath and more are on the way. And yeah, I’ll be throwing on a few heavy holiday tunes here and there–did someone say Twisted “ho-ho-hoes” Sister? Gotta keep get ya ready for the coming onslaught! It may be getting colder out there, but the old school metal is as hot as ever…the House of Hair is headed your way!
Tesla, Cinderella and High Seas Rock the Ship!!
November 22, 2010
The Shiprocked Cruise was marked by high seas, heavy winds and even heavier metal. As the Shiprockers boarded the ship, they were quite the spectacle to all the fanny pack and Velcro shoe wearing “Cruisers.” Many an unsuspecting retiree was heard commenting about all the long hair and tattoos on the passengers and band members as we embarked the vessel.
Day One was kicked of by amazing performances by Drowning Pool and Blackstone Cherry, a southern inspired hard rocking band from Kentucky. As we sailed the high seas, passengers saw two wedding proposals. Congratulations to both couples! There were many old friends that were reunited on the boat and shared a drink or two while trying to get pictures with their favorite stars from the past and the many stars of the future from the newer bands, all of whom made themselves accessible to the fans on the boat. Even if they were being pursued by photo taking maniacs with novelty sunglasses that were collecting shots of the stars like they were on some sort of Heavy Metal safari. Jeff Keith of Tesla and Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust earned especially high marks from all the fans for being cordial, endearing, and tolerant of the many people that wanted a picture with them. Tesla took the main stage for the opening night performance and delivered as usual. They played all the standards to a crowd that knew every word and sang along passionately. If you have ever been on a cruise ship you know how small the auditorium that the Magician in the sequined suit calls home, so to say the shows were intimate would be an understatement. It was like seeing a headlining national touring act in a small town movie theater.
On the second day, high winds made for rough seas and the boat was not only rocking figuratively, but literally as well. Cinderella, who was voted as the most requested band by the 2009 Shiprockers, was the much anticipated headliner for Friday night. Tom Keifer’s vocals were impressive and the stage presence of the entire band showed why they are still popular today. Other bands playing both before and after Cinderella included The Letter Black, Aranda and late night shows by Drowning Pool and Broken Teeth. Drowning Pool played until after 2 am in what was one of the most memorable of the trip. After finishing an ear splitting set of their music they played an encore of several Pantera songs that included lead singer Ryan McComb taking the show into the crowd.
Day 3 featured another full day of music and the first chance to see Atlanta based Sevendust prior to catching Vince Neil in main theater. They had the crowd on the pool deck bouncing and fist pumping in a frenzy. The show included a surreal scene seeing such a great band on a pool deck of a cruise ship while Tesla frontman Jeff Keith and New York Yankee outfielder Johnny Damon (who was on board as a fan of the rock) are rocking out to the show along with all the other fans. Vince Neil was the headliner for the final night and fought through a case of layringitis to play a mix of his new Tattoos and Tequila and classic Motley Crue standards.
The cruise was a great success and makes coming home to snow on the ground, temps in the 30’s and work a real drag. It’s great to see all the repeat offenders that showed up for Shiprock 2010. I’m already anticipating next years line-up and can’t wait for the announcement of when we can book the trip.
Check out all the photos in the HOH Headbangers community!!

Dee,
I’m a high school student who goes to a school full of kids who listen to rap crap, and I wish that I could be in high school during the ‘80s because it was a time that metal ruled. One of my favorite bands is Black N’ Blue, so could you please play “Hold On To 18?”
Thanks!

Do you know what goes best with roast turkey and pumpkin pie? A heapin’ helpin’ of steaming hot, old school metal!
It’s time to give thanks for the metal this week before giving thanks for everything else next week. I’ll be serving up Skid Row, my band Twisted Sister, Metallica and a whole bunch more. And hey–do you wanna go to New York City and see me on Broadway in Rock of Ages? Well, I’m gonna hook you up! Tune into this week’s House of Hair…I’ll give you something to gobble gobble about!
Calling all Landlocked Metalheads!!
November 11, 2010
Attention all landlocked metalheads…The Shiprocked heavy metal cruise sets sail toaday and everyone is looking forward to three days and nights at sea with House of Hair legends Tesla, Cinderella and Vince Neal. If there is any mechanical difficulty with our boat it is very important to advise the Coast Guard not to send canned tuna, Spam or any other non-perishable food items. We need to conserve the limited space available for the air dropped supplies, so here is the supply list should the boat become disabled:
1. Beer, Jack, Jaeger, Rum, Vodka etc…However much the helicopter can carry! We need to keep the passengers of Shiprocked placated and this one simple request should take care of that until we can be rescued.
2. Pretzels, although I would like to think that most House of Hair listeners could live on the above list of supplies alone they will be much happier if they have some salty snack food with their beverage.
Don’t worry about the entertainment due to the power outage should, because that just means that all the sets will be acoustic!! Nothing like a good Hair band going Unplugged!
I will try and send a few more updates from the ship if it is possible.
Rock on!
Dennis
BuzzChic Sez: Dennis was our ShipRocked winner last year, and he had such a rockin’ time, he’s paid his own way this year and will be sharing “headbanger-on-the-ship” commentary with us — and insuring that our HOH Get Shiprocked winners from this year, Jaime Bush-Reader and her hubby Jason, will be having a partyin’ good time aboard ships!

Dee,
“Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica is dedicated to the one I love. This song has been “our song” forever. Our love affair is unconventional, to say the least. There was a time when we let other things matter more than our relationship. We spent many years apart and are now reconnecting. I need him to know in a very special way that ‘nothing else matters’. Eddie, life is ours and we live it our way. ‘Us’ is what matters most.

Win a dream trip to see Dee Snider starring in Rock of Ages on Broadway!
November 4, 2010
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNERS!
Huge congratulations are in order for Julie Miller of Columbiana, OH, and her boyfriend Clarence (aka “Bud”). The House of Hair is sending this lucky pair off to the bright lights of Broadway and the big city of New York to catch Dee Snider in the musical, Rock of Ages! Julie and Bud will be enjoying round trip airfare from Ohio to the Big Apple, a two-night stay at the Paramount Hotel, tickets to the show, a CD of the original Broadway cast recording and a meet and greet with Dee after the performance. Enjoy, you two…and make sure to send us some pics of the trip! 24 runners up also got a copy of the cast recording – see names below!

Here’s a look at Julie’s winning entry:
A few months ago, I read on the House of Hair website about a March of Dimes charity bike run that Dee Snider was leading. The 50-mile run was scheduled to start in Lima, Ohio, and end in Cridersville — to be named Snidersville — how cool is that? Lima is 200 miles from our house, but we thought if Dee was going to be that close, we had to go. So, we rode the 200 miles just to be in the run.
My boyfriend, Bud, is one of Dee’s most loyal and dedicated fans. He saw Twisted Sister at the first Rocklahoma. He listens to the House of Hair EVERY Saturday night and keeps a log of all of the songs (even though they’re posted online). Dee, I have to check the playlist every Monday to confirm that we got all of the songs! If we go out Saturday night, we have to be home by 10pm for HOH. But, hey, I don’t mind…at least I know where he is every Saturday night, right? We subscribe to the BuzzCut, and he keeps a copy of each week’s issue. He watched every episode of Growing Up Twisted, and we emailed A&E to keep the show on! When he met Dee and Suzette and the kids in Snidersville, he felt like he already knew them, and Dee and his family treated Bud as if he were a friend of the family. They were all so nice to him…it really meant a great deal to him! They made him feel appreciated! Meeting Dee was a dream come true for Bud.
We are children of the ‘80s; in fact, that’s one of the things that really brought us together, our love for ‘80s music. That’s why seeing Rock of Ages in NYC would be a dream come true! After meeting for the first time at a friend’s house party, we ran into each other at a Poison concert and have been together ever since! Nothin’ but a good time! The concerts we have seen together could be pulled right from an HOH playlist: Alice Cooper, Cinderella, Danger Danger, Def Leppard, Dokken, Kiss, LA Guns, Lita, Journey, Scorpions, Trixter. Our local radio station sponsors an ‘80s time warp prom…my first chance to go was with Bud two years ago. He has gone every year since it started and dresses as some ‘80s character. He has gone with his buddies as ZZ Top. Last year, he was Magnum P.I. He collects everything ‘80s; movies, music, board games!
We are also helping to keep the metal alive by introducing my 13-year-old daughter to the HOH. Earlier this year, I took her to see Carrie Underwood. Let’s just say that, after we took her to see Trixter, Danger Danger, LA Guns and Dokken, now we’re taking her to see Bon Jovi and she wants to see Ozzy! Now she has Ozzy, Kiss, Journey, Bon Jovi, to name a few, on her iPod.
Another one of Bud’s faves is New York City, so meeting Dee and seeing him perform ON BROADWAY in Rock of Ages in his favorite city…well, that would make 2010 the best metal year yet! Everything about this contest seems to have been created just for Bud! All of his favorite things are wrapped up in this neat, not-so-little package! Please help me make Bud’s dream come true! He is Dee’s MOST DESERVING fan!
The following winners didn’t win the trip to the Big Apple, but they can pretend like they did by firing up the original Broadway cast soundtrack of Rock Of Ages! Congrats, all!

- Dee and the House of Hair Team!

Sometimes the most interesting projects arise from the most unusual circumstances. So it is that DOWN ‘n’ OUTZ, a project fronted by Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott and backed by The Quireboys have recorded 13 modern cover versions of rare yet monumental tracks by 70’s rock pioneers Mott, Ian Hunter and British Lions.
“Mott the Hoople has always been my favorite band and it’s nice to see the rest of the rock world finally catch up and give them their due” says Elliott. Joe Elliott’s DOWN ‘n’ OUTZ supported the legendary British icons, Mott The Hoople, at one of their critically acclaimed 2009 reformation shows at the Hammersmith Odeon. Following a rapturous reception, the one night project took on a life and energy of its own and a demo was born. Joe Elliott’s DOWN ‘n’ OUTZ then set out to record a full length LP of classic material entitled My ReGeneration.
Joe Elliott takes up the story, “When Mott The Hoople announced they were reforming for a week worth of shows at the Hammersmith Odeon I was asked that I participate in some capacity. They’ve always been my favorite band and it’s nice to see the rest of the rock world finally catch up and give them their due.”
“But, what was I to do? It was suggested to me that the Quireboys would be up for offering their services. This was perfect! A fan since their first album, I loved the idea of working with a band as enthusiastic to do this as I was.”
“I decided that the thing to do was play some songs that like minded people thought they would never hear live again, if ever, songs by spin offs of Mott the Hoople – songs by Mott, Ian Hunter and British Lions. Songs that are close to my heart, songs that I’ve played every week for the best part of 35 years on record, cassette, CD, Ipod and now live.”
The album was produced by Joe Elliott with co-production by Ronan McHugh and recorded in Elliott’s own studio “Joe’s Garage” and Moor Hall Studio in Bedfordshire. In addition to Joe Elliott (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboards) the band featured The Quireboys’ Paul Guerin (Guitar), Guy Griffin (Guitar), Keith Weir
(keyboards), Phil Martin (drums) and bassist Ronnie Garrity (Raw Glory).
My ReGeneration is the first part in a series of projects by theDOWN ‘n’ OUTZ.

Dee,
I’ve been a metal radio DJ for 20 years; in fact, my two-hour show “The Pit” follows House Of Hair on Sunday nights here on 101.5 K-Rock in Northeast Kansas. Along with getting to meet you a few years back, I’ve had the distinct pleasure of getting to meet and interview one of my true idols, Ronnie James Dio, more than once. Not only is his voice one of the greatest ever, but he was also one of the kindest gentleman in history and someone who could inspire as much as entertain. His passing came too quickly, and it’s been amazing to see and hear from thousands of people how much he touched their lives, too.
Until recently I could never imagine my musical world without Ronnie James Dio, but now I’m forced to try. Although I didn’t get my request in for your Dio Tribute show, please play “Don’t Talk To Strangers” for myself and all of the diehard Dio fans listening. It was one of his favorite songs from his early solo career, and absolutely still one of mine.
Thanks for all that you do, keep hammering the airwaves and I’ll keep doing the same every week after you. We Rock!
- Drewcifer from 101.5 KMKF “K-Rock”
What’s New This Week – Nov. 1, 2010
November 1, 2010
Rollin’ into November with an extra long mullet and a handful of old school metal to get you through to Thanksgiving dinner–it’s the House of Hair!
This week, I’ll be handing out tunes from Cinderella, Sammy Hagar and Metallica – but wait…there’s more! I’ve got insane giveaways like an all-expense paid dream trip to NYC to see me starring in “Rock of Ages!” How sweet it is! I’ve also got CDs from the Joe Elliott project called Down ‘N’ Outz to give away and requests galore! It’s all on deck when the House of Hair makes the metal this week! You don’t want to miss it!
