Rock Icon To Kick Off Festival At Aug. 26 Tribute Event

SSMF 2010 Set For Aug. 26, 27 & 28 In West Hollywood

Legendary guitarist SLASH will be honored at the third annual SUNSET STRIP MUSIC FESTIVAL (SSMF). SSMF will celebrate Slash, who is synonymous with The Sunset Strip, for his contributions to the history of The Strip as well as the music industry. The tribute event kicks off the three-day music fest and honors icons who have made an impact on the legacy of The Sunset Strip. The August 26 event will take place at the House of Blues Sunset Strip.
Adding to the celebration, the City of West Hollywood will also declare Aug. 26, 2010, “Slash Day.”

“I am sincerely overwhelmed to be the recipient of the Sunset Strip Music Festival honors! The Strip and West Hollywood have been my stomping grounds since I was a little kid,” noted Slash. “I grew up in and around the music scene here. It is where I got my start in the music business and where I still feel most at home. Thank you so much.”

Known for his skillful, soulful hard-rock guitar solos, Slash’s career has continued to grow from his early days performing at the Whisky A Go-Go with Guns N’ Roses to his collaborations with Michael Jackson (“Black And White,” “Give In To Me”), Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and directors Quentin Tarantino and Darren Aronofsky (core contributions to the “Jackie Brown” soundtrack and the signature sound of the score to “The Wrestler”).

Slash traces his love of music and exploring spirit to his childhood in England, where his father introduced him to the sounds of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Yardbirds and other classic, groundbreaking acts. He got an insider’s view through his teen years after the family moved to Los Angeles, his father a graphic artist who worked with David Geffen for such artists as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell and his mother a costume designer for many top pop artists. Almost on a whim, he and friend Steve Adler started playing music together; Slash on guitar and Adler on drums. In the early ’80s, influenced by such bands as Lemmy’s Motorhead, he and Adler formed a band, recruiting bassist Duff McKagan. Within a year, with the addition of singer Axl Rose and guitarist Izzy Stradlin, the venture had morphed into Guns N’ Roses – and by the end of the decade had changed the course of rock history.

Slash has also lent his talents to bands Slash’s Snakepit and the Grammy Award-winning Velvet Revolver as well as a self-titled solo album, which features guest spots from artists including Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, Lemmy, Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale and Adam Levine among others, set for release on April 6.

“You cannot mention The Sunset Strip without thinking of Slash. His influence changed the course of rock and roll and can be seen daily on The Strip,” stated Todd Steadman, executive director of the Sunset Strip Music Festival. “He continues to support The Sunset Strip and has been a part of the festival from its inaugural year, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate him for his contributions to this legendary music boulevard.”

“The City of West Hollywood is so proud to be home to the world-famous Sunset Strip, and we look forward to again hosting the Sunset Strip Music Festival,” noted West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land. “Building on the first two successful events, we’re certain that this year’s festival will be an amazing celebration of The Strip, its history and great music. That celebration will be even more exciting with the recognition of Slash as one of the festival honorees. He has energized audiences worldwide, but holds a special place in the ongoing legacy of The Sunset Strip.”

Previous SSMF honorees include Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and Elmer Valentine, who helped shape the live music experience on The Strip with the creation of The Roxy Theatre, The Rainbow and the Whisky A Go-Go, and rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, whose first U.S. performance was at the Whisky with Black Sabbath in 1970.

Similar to the 2009 SSMF, this year’s event will feature live performances in all six music venues (Cat Club, House of Blues, Key Club, The Roxy Theatre, Viper Room and Whisky A Go-Go) on Friday, Aug. 27 and Saturday, Aug. 28. The three-day event will conclude with a street festival on Saturday, Aug. 28, which includes a street closure from San Vicente Boulevard to Doheny Drive allowing for outdoor stages as well as live performances throughout the day and night in the music venues.

More details about the Sunset Strip Music Festival 2010, including artist lineup and ticket information, will be announced.

OZZY OSBOURNE’S “LET ME HEAR YOU SCREAM,” WORLD PREMIERE on CSI: NY

March 31, 2010

Ozzy Osbourne’s new song, “Let Me Hear You Scream,” from his upcoming Epic Records album, Scream, will have its world premiere during an episode of CSI: NY, to be broadcast Wednesday, April 14 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

In the episode, “Redemptio,” a death row inmate’s (guest star Harold Perrineau, “Lost”) final request brings Dr. Hawkes (series regular Hill Harper) to a Pennsylvania prison and face-to-face with a tragic incident that he has kept secret for many years, just as a prison riot erupts and traps Hawkes inside. The story was written by executive producer Peter M. Lenkov, with the teleplay by Lenkov and Bill Haynes.

“We were looking for something high energy and irreverent to sell the madness of a prison riot,” said executive producer and episode writer Peter M. Lenkov. “We immediately responded to the new Osbourne tune. The song exceeded our expectations and brought exactly the right tone to the episode.”

“When I heard they were going to use ‘Let Me Hear You Scream’ for a prison riot scene, I thought, ‘Well, now that’s something I know about,’” says Ozzy, who spent time in prison in the U.K. for burglary before his 18th birthday.

Ozzy Osbourne’s career has spanned four decades and his music is as relevant today as ever. The multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has sold over 100 million albums worldwide – 50 million with Black Sabbath and as many as a solo artist. In 2003, he was honored with a star on Hollywood Boulevard’s “Walk of Fame.” Osbourne is not only a legend and an icon, but is a pioneer in his genre of music.

CSI: NY, a crime drama inspired by the drama series “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” is about forensic investigators who use high-tech science to follow the evidence and solve crimes in the Big Apple.

  • Hey Dee,
While you were starting Twisted Sister’s “You Can’t Stop Rock and Roll” on a recent show I just happened to be folding up my Iron Maiden t-shirt that my Jonas Brothers-loving friend got me for Christmas. It reminded me of how proud I am to be a metal addict! I’m 17, and I’m really the only one of my friends who appreciates the METAL, and everyone knows not to bother me during the sacred two hours that are the House of Hair. I love being a metalhead, and I wouldn’t have it any other frickin’ way! I would like to hear Whitesnake’s “Children of the Night” because it makes me wanna ROCK, and I can crank it up to 11 and wake up my whole family! Thanks for keeping the good stuff on the air in all its leathery, hair-sprayed glory!

THE SCORPIONS TO BE INDUCTED INTO HOLLYWOOD’S ROCKWALK

March 24, 2010

Rudolf Schenker, Klaus Meine, Matthias Jabs, James Kottak and
Pawel Maciwoda to Be Honored on Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Los Angeles, California, March 23, 2010 – Rudolf Schenker, Klaus Meine, Matthias Jabs, James Kottak and Pawel Maciwoda of the Scorpions will be inducted into Hollywood’s RockWalk on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at noon. The Scorpions–who have sold over 100 million records worldwide–will be honored by fans with a special ceremony at Guitar Center in Hollywood.

This marks a very special occasion for the Scorpions: with the March 23 release of their new album, Sting in the Tail (via Universal Music Enterprises) and a three-year, five-continent mammoth tour, one of the most successful rock bands in the world will be ending their career. It will be the most adventurous if not greatest project of the band: hundreds of shows, hundreds of thousands of fans, countless miles on a plane and tour bus.

It has been 35 years since the original formation of the legendary German hard rock band Scorpions drove their rickety red VW bus from one small pub to another, from one back yard to another, in their home state of Lower-Saxony to unpack their equipment and rock on. Five years earlier, in the little town of Sarstedt, Rudolf Schenker had given the band its name. From the very beginning the band showed signs for a promising career.

From an “Echo” for “Life Achievement” (2009) and “Best National Band” (1994) to the “World Music Award” (1994), there aren’t many noteworthy awards the Scorpions have not received. The accomplishments throughout their career have built a bridge between yesterday and tomorrow: they drew more than 150,000 spectators between Manaus and Rio on the last big South America tour, sold out stadiums in Greece last summer, jam-packed venues in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Mumbai and performed at “Monsters Of Rock.”

Hollywood’s RockWalk is the only sidewalk gallery dedicated to honoring those artists who have made a significant impact and lasting contribution to the growth and evolution of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Blues and R&B. The Scorpions handprints will reside alongside the handprints, signatures, and faces of other equally accomplished musicians and innovators such as Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Bonnie Raitt, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, John Lee Hooker and Earth Wind & Fire among numerous others.

black-water-rising

The House of Hair is proud to support up and coming rock bands like BLACK WATER RISING. We’ve got CD’s and autographed gear to giveaway – we know you’ll love this new band! BLACK WATER RISING is the new self-produced outing by former DUST TO DUST singer/songwriter Rob Traynor.

After releasing two self-produced albums nationwide with Dust To Dust, Traynor basically sank back into musical obscurity. Locking himself away in his Brooklyn, New York recording studio for the past two years, Traynor has re-emerged with a collection of new soul baring, angst ridden, riff heavy material that is proudly anchored in the foundations of traditional Hard Rock song writing. Giant guitar driven monster riffs served up on a bed of crushing grooves with soaring melodic vocals and big hooks. Basically, NO FRILLS RIFF ROCK!

Lyrically the message is socially and politically driven by the dark times we live in. With darkness seemingly growing by the day, BLACK WATER RISING is a name that fits this band like a glove. Armed with a new sonic vision, Traynor is joined by former BOILER ROOM drummer Mike Meselsohn, former STEREOMUD guitarist Johnny Fattoruso and bassist Oddie McLaughlin.

The philosophy of BWR is simple, they are not looking to reinvent the wheel, they just want to give it a much needed alignment in these musically stale times. Enough bullshit! Crank up your speakers, sit back, spark a bat, and let the music tell the rest of the story…

SCORPIONS: ‘GET YOUR STING AND BLACKOUT TOUR’ ACCESS TO ADVANCE TICKETS AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY WITH ALBUM PURCHASE ON ITUNES

March 17, 2010

scorps

The SCORPIONS–known worldwide for their mega, arena hard rock and over 100 million records sold–will travel the globe one last time on the “GET YOUR STING AND BLACKOUT” tour. Kicking off the North American leg in June, the tour will take the band across the U.S. all summer and continue on around the world with special guests supporting along the way. Dates will be announced soon.

To thank their loyal fans for their 40+ years support, the band–KLAUS MEINE (vocals), MATTHIAS JABS (lead guitar), RUDOLF SCHENKER (guitar), JAMES KOTTAK (drums) and PAWEL MACIWODA (bass)–have helped create a special promotion with the iTunes Store. Starting this week, iTunes customers have the opportunity to pre-order the new and final SCORPIONS album, STING IN THE TAIL, until March 22. Fans who pre-order the album on iTunes will receive a unique code to exclusively pre-purchase tickets to U.S. tour dates via Ticketmaster. For this offer, visit: iTunes.com/Scorpions. Fans who purchase the album on iTunes will also receive an exclusive bonus track, “Let’s Rock.”

Sting in the Tail will be released March 23 via Universal Music Group and is already #48 on iTunes album chart. The final album features the anthemic single “Raised On Rock” which is already #10 on the Mediabase Classic Rock Chart, #2 most added for mainstream radio and steadily climbing. Rockline Radio host Bob Coburn says, “We played the new Scorpions CD…and it blew everybody away. General consensus is this is one of the best rock albums ever. Everything is killer, every single song.”

On Sting in the Tail, the band adds to their remarkable list of hits–including “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” “Wind of Change” and “No One Like You”–with “Raised On Rock,” the ballad “Lorelei” which shares the story of a German legend, and “The Good Die Young,” which MEINE says is “about people who stand up for peace and freedom…in a world that gets out of balance more and more every day, we try to put this feeling into music.” Sting in the Tail is a true return to the classic and unmistakable hard rock sound that has allowed the SCORPIONS to remain an influential and powerful force in rock music throughout their career.

Having already sold over 100 million records, multiple gold and platinum albums, earned the ECHO’s “Honorary Award” for lifetime achievement (the German comparison of the Grammys), the SCORPIONS performed to over 150,000 spectators on the last big South America tour, sold out stadiums in Greece last summer, jam-packed venues in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Mumbai, SCHENKER is looking forward to this final worldwide outing and anticipates “a huge blowout, where we can party with our fans and say good-bye.”

  • Hi Dee,
I work at MMI and we turn out some of the best Harley mechanics on the face of the earth. The only problem is a lot of them don’t remember the roots of why they’re able to do this and that Sammy Hagar has been jammin’ since before they were a crooked smile after too many drinks. They also want to be the hero before they’ve paid their dues. Where would we be if folks like Sammy hadn’t paid his dues with Ronnie Montrose? I’d like to hear Montrose’s “Bad Motor Scooter.” Fire it up, get on the gas and make it last as long as you can; it’s so much easier when you understand…it’s bangin’ time!

AUTOGRAPHED GUITARS AUCTIONED FOR HAITI RELIEF FUND

NEXT STOP: LONDON’S ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS IN MAY 2010

A standing-room-only crowd helped cheer on the latest graduates from ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FANTASY CAMP, held this past week in Los Angeles, with a star-studded show at the Key Club Sunday night (2/28). Rock luminaries like Bret Michaels (Poison), Ace Frehley (KISS), Michael Anthony (Van Halen, Chickenfoot) and Matt Sorum (Guns ‘n Roses, Velvet Revolver), plus 20 other rock stars helped mentor more than 75 Campers from the U.S., Canada and England, all of whom came to Los Angeles to live out their rock ‘n’ roll dreams. For the first time ever, the Camp was filmed for a TV series, produced by Mark Burnett Productions and set to air this summer on VH1 Classic.

At Sunday’s (2/28) grand finale at the Key Club on Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip, a packed house partied with rock stars–and like rock stars–as each of the competing bands performed new music they wrote during the week as well as some rock classics. Hosted by ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FANTASY CAMP founder David Fishof, the evening also saw the auctioning of signed electric guitars for Haiti relief funds.

The next ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FANTASY CAMP will be held at the acclaimed Abbey Road studios in London, England over Memorial Day weekend (May 25-31) and will include Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Jack Bruce (Cream), Spike Edney (Queen), Mick Ralphs (Bad Company) and Joey Molland (Badfinger) as well as returning counselors Mark Hudson and Kip Winger.

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FANTASY CAMP does exactly what it says! Regardless of experience, campers are provided with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rehearse and record at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, with some of rock’s most iconic stars by their side. The week culminates in the opportunity to perform live on stage at the world’s most famous rock club, THE CAVERN in Liverpool, where the Beatles first made their name.

The camp is so much more than a ‘meet & greet’ opportunity, it truly provides a full-on rock experience–with 10+ hours of daily jamming with the rock star counselors, meals with celebrity musicians, a CD of the campers’ music recorded at Abbey Road Studios and a DVD of their live performance at The Cavern.

While no experience is necessary, to ensure that all campers get the most out of their week, Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp is introducing a “Masters Program” for more accomplished participants. By submitting tapes/videos ahead of the camp, they can be assured they will be grouped with other musicians of their caliber. The best recommendation comes from participants and counselors alike who return to camp after camp.
