I stumbled on to the HOH back in 1998. I didn’t even know that there was a show dedicated to the playing of the metal. Anyways, I’ve been a loyal listener ever since. Please play “Wasted Years” by Iron Maiden. The opening guitar is killer. It’s almost like an alarm clock to wake your ass up and get ready to bang your head. Thanks, Dee.
P.S. I had an excellent time catching some of my favorite hairbands here in New Orleans this summer, but I’m missing one: yours! WHEN THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO COME TO NEW ORLEANS? Talk to whoever’s in charge and get down here.

LITA FORD GETS IN THE HALLOWEEN SPIRIT WITH MONSTERS, AND EVIL BUNNIES!
October 16, 2009
The Gillettes’ Webcomic Available Now; Full Comic Book To Follow
Just in time for Halloween, Lita gets covered in blood, fights zombies, and escapes evil… bunny rabbits?
Yes, those are the scenes going on in the Queen of Metal’s first foray into the world of comics.
First up is Lita and her family – husband Jim and sons Rocco and James Gillette – in a four-panel, full color adventure webcomic where 8-year-old Rocco is dreaming about evil bunnies coming to get him, only to wake up to find that a fiercer danger actually lies ahead for this rock and roll family.
The webcomic, available now at www.myspace.com/whambangcomics, is just a tease to where the real action goes down in The Gillettes: Family Business comic book, which is out just after Halloween via JLRG Entertainment and Wham Bang Comics. The 24-page, full color comic book has Lita and her brood fighting their way to a concert by battling zombies, which were created through an ancient curse by a supernatural mastermind. The dead, soulless and impenetrable-to-pain zombies can only be taken down by extreme force or decapitation and that’s just what Lita, Jim, Rocco and James set out to do.
“Halloween’s always been one of my favorite holidays,” says Lita, whose first new album in 14 years, Wicked Wonderland, is out now, “and what better way to spend it than on the pages of a comic book covered in blood and fighting off zombies with my family?”
The creative team behind the comic book — fourteen-year-old comic scribe Jake Tinsley and veteran Manga artist Jason Dube — love to tell these kinds of horror stories. “Zombies are icky, they’re gross, and they’re dead,” Jake Tinsley said. “They’re really kind of spectacular.”
JLRG and Wham Bang Comics have released some finished artwork to give readers a taste of what the final version will be like. This art sample includes some color pages, some black and white pages, and a four-panel of The Gillettes webcomic — published primarily on the Internet for promotional purposes — which teases readers with a short hint of the zombie story. This will mark young Jake Tinsley’s 21st published webcomic. The Gillettes: Family Business will be Jake’s seventh published comic book. He was 12 when his first comic was published.
Fans can also get a glimpse of the promo The Gillettes: Family Business, which Lita also plans to sell on tour starting in November, on the back page of Jake’s Amber Hagerman Deserves Justice: A Night Owl Story, which is in stores on October 28.
Meanwhile, the new cd Wicked Wonderland has been heating up metal and hard rock radio with such scorching rockers as, “Crave” a duet with husband Jim, and “Piece (Hell Yeah)” a strip club anthem which is sure to excite the senses.

Lita’s Bio
Whoever said absence makes the heart grow fonder must’ve been thinking about the relationship between Lita Ford and rock ‘n’ roll. The hard rock queen stepped away from her remarkable musical career back in the 1990s to devote herself to family and the surroundings of real life on a surreal Caribbean island, but with the call of the sonic wild getting louder and louder, she made the decision to dive back in at the deep end – only to find that she had every bit as much love for the heavy rock grind. And as it turns out, the feeling is mutual.
With Wicked Wonderland, her first full-length offering since 1995’s Black, Lita shows that her flair for sexy, stomping, searing sounds has only gotten more vivid – which is mighty impressive, given a history that includes such classics as “Kiss Me Deadly” and the Ozzy Osbourne duet “Close My Eyes Forever.” The disc, created in tandem with husband Jim Gillette – whose own musical history is highlighted by his work with acclaimed metallurgists Nitro – is a hard and heavy affirmation of the sensuality and smarts that’ve carried her through three decades of action.
“It’s funny, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve only gotten freakier,” says Lita. “Yeah, I took time to raise my kids and by raising my kids, I mean really doing it – home-schooling them myself, growing our food, baking bread for dinner. But at the end of the day, when it’s time to go to the boudoir, Jim and I are super-sexual and that’s definitely reflected in these songs.”
It certainly is – in both the pelvis-pounding rhythms and lascivious lyrics of tunes like the appropriately-titled “Indulge” and the so-nasty-it’s-nice “Crave.” With Lita showing off her trademark ability to purr seductively through some tracks and deliver a well-placed knockout punch on no-holds-barred songs like “Piece (Hell Yeah),” Wicked Wonderland showcases an artist who’s clearly got plenty to say and no shortage of ways to say it.
The 12-cut disc certainly touches on the sort of headbang-inducing riffage that gave Lita her start way back when, but there are also surprises aplenty – from the smoking slide guitar that punctuates the bluesy “Scream” to the psychedelic industrial swirl that envelops “Everything.” It’s a potent blend, propelled by in-your-face drumming and Lita’s effortlessly steamy vocals.
“We started working and the songs just started pouring out,” she says. “Honestly, there were times we started working on a song and ten minutes later and we’d be done. We’re so in sync that I’m not surprised it went smoothly. But I was kinda surprised about how intense the songs ended up being. It is definitely the heaviest thing I’ve ever done.”
That’s saying a lot, given the history of the gal who grew up in England wanting to start a band, not merely say “I’m with the band.” Lita started down that path in her mid-teens after saving the wages she scraped together from odd after-school gigs. Less than two years later, she was strutting L.A.’s Sunset Strip as a member of The Runaways, an all-female answer to the most bad-ass New York punk pioneers. As the chief sonic architect of that ground-breaking band – soon to be the topic of a much-anticipated Hollywood bio-pic, Lita birthed classic tracks like “Cherry Bomb,” but even more importantly, gave the world an attitude that would inspire countless girls to form bands of their own.
“I don’t know that I ever really thought about being an influence,” she says, self-deprecatingly. “But I get reminded of it all the time. People come up to me and tell me they named their kids after me or named their dogs after me or named their fish after me. But what’s really cool is when they say they picked up a guitar because of me. That’s so rewarding.”
Lita’s influence only grew stronger once she broke out as a solo artist with such still-scintillating discs a Out for Blood and Dancing on the Edge. Through much of he 1980s, she was a huge presence on the metal scene, packing venues, earning Grammy nominations and collecting a passel of precious-metal certifications – not to mention the sort of fan adulation that resulted in her being honored with seven Metal Edge Readers Choice Awards and installation into the Circus magazine Hall of Fame, in which she was the only female inductee.
She scaled the charts with albums like the 1988 release Lita and Stiletto, which followed two years later – both of which showcased a different side of Lita the artist on songs like the moving “Lisa” (a piece dedicated to her mother) — and even crossed over to film with a prime role in the 1992 cult favorite Highway to Hell. But then, at the height of her powers, she opted to walk away.
‘It kind of stopped being fun after a while, though, and when I met Jim, I knew it was time to take a break and get my priorities in order,” says Lita. For her, that meant getting as far from the glitz of Los Angeles as possible, moving to a small island in the Caribbean in order to raise sons James and Rocco.
Lita grants that her guitars attracted quite a layer of dust in the intervening years – she proudly points out that her sons, who’ll be joining her on the road later this year, have never had to spend the night in the company of a nanny or a babysitter. But as the balls-to-the-wall tone – and sharply-crafted melodies – of Wicked Wonderland prove, her instincts didn’t lose one shred of their sharpness along the way.
“It wasn’t a situation where I was writing songs and playing every day over the years,” she says. “But Jim and I are rockers and it’s in our blood, you know? Things built up and when they got to the point where they had to explode….we ended up with this ass-kicking album.”

- Hey, man! I just returned back from Iraq and all my platoon used to listen to Dio or Iron Maiden before we took foot patrol! So, if you could play some DIO that would be freakin’ awesome, brotha! Me and a few of my Marines are listening to the station now, so remember the troops, brotha, and keep rockin’ it!

Get ShipRocked and Win a 5-Day Cruise for Two to Jamaica and Grand Cayman!
October 6, 2009
WINNER ANNOUNCED!
Nov. 26, 2009 – Check out both of our Winners’ Trip Diary and Photos from the Cruise!
Huge congrats to HOH fan and KMAX/Ft. Collins, CO listener Dennis Schenkenberger who will be enjoying the ShipRocked five-day headbanging cruise to Jamaica and Grand Cayman. Dennis and his wife Ann (pictured) will be floating their way to the islands while checking out live performances from Queensryche, Skid Row, Tesla, Ratt and more. As you can see, they’ve got a head start on the “chill” part of the cruise!

Also on their way to board ShipRocked are WBWR/Columbus, OH, listener Lisa Berger and her husband, Phil. Lisa won part 1 of our contest earlier this year.
Enjoy your deluxe cabins, ocean views and 24 hour partying all the way to Jamaica (with a couple of stops along the way!) and feel free to submit photos of your onboard heavy metal high jinks!
Here’s a look at Dennis’ winning entry:
“I am a hardworking blue collar metalhead from the ‘80s. I currently work as a police officer, but beneath the clean pressed uniform, shiny gun belt and short cropped hair is a leather pant wearing, teased hair maniac that has to repress the feelings to jam an iPod down the throat of some yuppie drinking a Starbucks listening to the latest Maroon 5 album. Instead of drinking free coffee and eating donuts I should be pounding Jack Daniels and trashing a hotel room!
I’ve spent the past three months working nights — “Walk(ing) In The Shadows” – and I need five days of Caribbean sunshine. I’m a 39 year old “Modern Day Cowboy” fighting against the evils of country music and easy listening adult contemporary radio stations. The “Revolution’s Calling” and I want to be on a cruise instead of standing on the thin blue line between total chaos and order.
So, for five days let me fight the man instead of being the man. I know that these contests are “Ez Come, Ez Go,” but I would prefer to go. So, do the right thing and look into the “Eyes Of A Stranger” and tell him that he’ll be listening to Operation Mindcrime instead of fighting actual crime.”
Congrats to both winners and their spouses – Dennis + Ann and Lisa + Phil – have a great time and happy headbanging on the ShipRocked cruise!

I am everyone’s worst nightmare: A metal lovin’, tattoo havin’, Harley ridin’, single momma of two. In my spare time, I’m a high school English teacher and spend time teaching our youth how lyrics are just poetry in motion. My girls are required to spend every Sunday with their dad, so when I pick them up in the evening we have a two-hour drive home. The first thing my five year old says when she jumps in the Jeep: “Put on HOH, MOMMA!” Yeah! I taught them right! They then tell me they love me, and we cruise down the highway singing along to all the feel-good tunes you play. My oldest told me the other day, “HOH makes all the crap of the day go away, because if it ain’t metal, it’s CRAP!” Thanks for giving my girls something to look forward to on an otherwise tough day for them. So, please play Dio for Nat and Rooster.
Thanks, Dee.
