Bill Leverty, best known for his work with Firehouse, has just released a very personal new CD called “Deep South”. Far removed from his metal roots, “Deep South” is a collection of 10 traditional songs from the, well, deep south, that are mainly from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Using traditional instruments and arrangements, the songs stand the test of time and are a tribute to songwriters from the past. One song that will be instantly recognizable if you’ve seen the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” is “Man of Constant Sorrow” which sounds updated while still retaining its traditional twang. Of course, you’ll also know “Hit The Road Jack”, which we’ve all heard over the years.
“I love every one of these songs, and recording them with my interpretation has been a great honor and privilege” says Leverty. “I hope more people around the world will appreciate these songs after hearing this album.”
Also, check out the very cool cover, which is an early drawing from Bill’s grandfather. Bill, a huge friend of the HOH…we’re proud of ya!!

Where’d the version of “Rock n Roll Party…” that Dee plays on HOH come from originally?
August 24, 2009
Hey BuzzChic,
I’ve been listening to HOH for years and I love the show. But I have a question about one of the songs that Dee plays on HOH, “Rock n Party In The Streets” by Axe. I noticed it’s a longer version and I cannot find it at iTunes. I can, however, find at iTunes a shorter 3 min version that isn’t as good as the one that’s played on HOH.
Where’d the version of “Rock n Roll Party…” that Dee plays on HOH come from originally? Where can I find it? Why isn’t it on the CD version of the original LP, “Offering”?
Hope you can answer my questions. Hope this isn’t a waste of your time.
Sincerely,
David Jokerst
HOH Listener (Listens to WFXN in Mansfield, OH)
Hey David – dude, it’s never a waste of BuzzChic’s time to help out a HOH’er! (Unless she’s too wasted…, ha ha)
The version of the song you hear on the HOH is from Axe’s compilation “20 Years From Home…” and is actually about 4:30. Unfortunately, it is hard to find. Right now, it’s available at Amazon.com as an import.
Here’s the info – make sure you get Volume 1!
Thanks for listening!
xoxo

Metal that can either kick this rage right out of my system, or metal that can soothe all of it. So, dig deep into your archives of metal, and give everyone out there who’s having a crappy day like me a great tune to rock to! I may just be 20, but dammit! I need to rock hard!

AEROSMITH CANCELS SUMMER TOUR
August 14, 2009
AEROSMITH
REGRETFULLY ANNOUNCE
CANCELLATION OF THE REMAINDER
OF THEIR SUMMER TOUR
It is with great regret that AEROSMITH are canceling the remainder of their summer tour, it was announced today.
Due to injuries STEVEN TYLER sustained last week when he fell from the stage during a concert in Sturgis, SD, doctors have advised the lead singer to take the time to properly recuperate from the accident that resulted in a broken shoulder and stitches to his head. In his current condition, TYLER is unable to tour and the band wants to give him time to get healthy.
Ticket refunds for the rest of the tour dates with special guests ZZ Top will be available at point of purchase.
TYLER fell from the stage during the August 5 show that was part of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Western South Dakota. The mishap occurred while he was dancing during the band’s “Love in an Elevator.” TYLER was subsequently airlifted to a hospital and then returned to Boston to consult with his own doctors.
AEROSMITH–STEVEN TYLER (vocals), JOE PERRY (guitar), BRAD WHITFORD (guitar), TOM HAMILTON (bass) and JOEY KRAMER (drums)–want to thank all their fans for their incredible ongoing support and understanding at this time.
“Words can’t express the sadness I feel for having to cancel this tour,” says JOE PERRY. “I would like to thank our loyal fans for sticking by us through thick and thin and all the good energy they are sending our way. We hope we can get the Aerosmith machine up and running again as soon as possible. I sure am going to miss playing with ZZ Top just as I’m sure the fans are going to miss seeing them playing with us as well. Hope to see you sooner than later.” JOE adds, “My hat’s off to our crew for putting up with this crazy stop and start tour. In my estimation, it was one of the best looking and best run tours we’ve ever had. Us road dawgs will meet again. May your wheels keep turning and your load in’s stay smooth.”
“All of us here in the AEROSMITH organization and all of the people who contribute to making our shows possible are in a state of shock,” BRAD WHITFORD says. “We never anticipated this tour coming to such a swift and unfortunate ending. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steven for a speedy recovery and return to good health.”

LES PAUL, inventor of the solid-body electric guitar, dies at 91
August 14, 2009

Condolences to the family and friends of Les Paul, who passed away Thursday from complications due to pneumonia. Everyone from Jimmy Page to Pete Townshend to Jay Jay French used Les Paul’s famous series of guitars, and we are the better for it. Guitarist Joe Satriani called Paul “the original guitar hero,” saying: “Les Paul set a standard for musicianship and innovation that remains unsurpassed.” Up until recently, Les Paul was still playing Monday night gigs at clubs around New York City.
WHITESNAKE CANCELS TOUR
August 14, 2009
Holy Crap! Another one bites the dust! With our hairbands aging, more and more tours are being disrupted by ailments and injuries. The HOH has just received word that this time, it’s David Coverdale from Whitesnake who’s down for the count. Only 4 songs into a performance at the gorgeous Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, Coverdale announced to the crowd: “Listen, I sincerely sincerely apologize. I have no f***n’ voice left. I tried, I just can’t do it. I’m so sorry. It hurts when I do this.” .
Later an official statement from www.whitesnake.com read: “Unfortunately, last night at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, Denver, Whitesnake had to cut their performance short due to Mr.Coverdale experiencing considerable pain in his vocal cords. He was immediately taken to a specialist for examination. The specialist discovered that David was suffering from severe vocal fold edema and a left vocal fold vascular lesion. He was instructed to cancel all performances for the next two weeks and then undergo a further examination. The doctors told us we were fortunate this was caught at a stage where no apparent permanent damage has been caused. We therefore regretfully have to announce that Whitesnake will not be appearing on the remainder of the U.S. tour with Judas Priest. Whitesnake sincerely regrets any disappointment this may cause.”

ROCK GONE WILD IS CANCELLED!

ROCK GONE WILD IS CANCELLED!
The House of Hair has just learned exclusively that Rock Gone Wild, a four-day rock festival scheduled for August 20-23 in Northwood, Iowa has been cancelled. Just last month, the festival organizers had moved the Rock Gone Wild festival from Freedom Park in Algona to The Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood. Here is the official press release:
Press Release August 7, 2009 4:52 pm CST
Rock Gone Wild, an Iowa based LLC was informed by Diamond Jo Casino, LLC legal counsel on August 5, 2009, that “the event cannot take place anywhere on the licensed premises”.
Due to Diamond Jo Casino, LLC refusing to honor its obligation to provide the venue, we are unable to produce the event as planned. This matter has been referred to legal counsel.

In related news, the HOH received an email Wednesday from a reverend at a local ministry. Here is what he had to say:
As President of [a local area] Ministerial Association with churches & families located within 5-12 miles of Diamond Jo Casino, on behalf of the Pastors & families, I appeal to you to reconsider your sponsorship of “Rock Gone Wild” & the Platinum Lounge (formerly known as the “Sinner’s Lounge”) during the upcoming RGW Aug.20-23. As Pastors we deal weekly with sexual abuse issues, rape, “date rape”, & other acts of violence against women & men. We really don’t need more opportunities for people to be abused in our cities. For the sake of our wives, children, & Grandchildren, we ask you to withdraw your support from the activities that would contribute to the increased risk of harm to our families. Check out RGW website for all the sordid details that your sponsorship is supporting.
Sincerely,
Reverend and families
