Twisted Sister to debut “A Twisted Christmas – The Musical”

September 6, 2008

Hey Bangers!

It’s funny how life sometimes imitates art, or in this case art imitates life.

Several weeks ago I got an e-mail from the producer of the House of Hair, Pam Edwards, saying that she had read online that Twisted Sister was turning our Christmas Album, “A Twisted Christmas” into a musical. I told her that what she read was completely wrong and they must have gotten confused with talk of Twisted Sister bringing our annual holiday concerts to Broadway (which we are). Not two days later, I received a call from Twisted guitarist and manager, Jay Jay French, telling me that we had been approached by MAJOR national promoters about us turning our album into a musical. I’m not sure if the online blurb had given them the idea or if somehow their intent to approach us had been leaked to the internet. Either way, the idea was to create a free standing show that Twisted Sister would not necessarily have to star in or perform, allowing “A Twisted Christmas – The Musical” to be performed by other casts during the holiday season. I was taken aback by the inquiry (especially since I had just heard the rumor days earlier), but was intrigued by the challenge. Could I come up with an idea?

Within a couple of days, I had written a treatment for the musical (that’s basically a glorified outline) and within a few weeks I had finished the first draft of the script. So here’s the deal:

In 2009, Twisted Sister is planning on debuting “A Twisted Christmas – The Musical”. It will be a two hour show (with intermission) containing about 20 songs with scripted dialog and narration in between telling the story of a fictitious band. The music will be a combination of songs from “A Twisted Christmas”, Twisted Sister classics and rarities and eight NEW Twisted Sister songs written for the show. I know I’ve said in the past that there would not be any more new Twisted Sister music, but I must say that I am inspired by this project and have changed my position. Hey, it’s a Sister’s prerogative! To this end, song writing has commenced for a new Twisted Sister album that will be a companion piece to the Christmas album. We are planning to begin recording in January and I foresee a summer or fall ‘09 release for the new record. This is a MAJOR undertaking for the band, but I don’t know when we’ve all been this fired up and inspired. Our hope is that eventually there will be multiple casts out each year performing this show during the Christmas holiday season. So there you have it.

Oh, you want to know what the show is about? Well, you’re just going to have to wait a little longer to find out that….

Still making The Metal!

WARRANT drops Jani Lane; adds Robert Mason as lead singer

September 6, 2008

WARRANT has issued this statement:

It is with the deepest regret that we have to announce that Jani Lane will no longer be performing with Warrant. From the beginning of our reunion talks to the last note of our last show together in Houston this past weekend we have had nothing but good intentions of bringing a quality original Warrant show to our fans and friends. We wish Jani nothing but the best and remain friends.

We are very excited that we have found an unbelievable voice in Robert Mason, an old friend of the band. We have three dates confirmed, come out and judge for yourself…we don’t think you will be disappointed!

GUITAR LEGEND YNGWIE MALMSTEEN UNLEASHES FIRST NEW ALBUM IN THREE YEARS

September 1, 2008

‘PERPETUAL FLAME,’ TO BE INDUCTED INTO ROCK WALK AND TOUR NORTH AMERICA FALL 2008

The global rock guitar community will undoubtedly mark October 14, 2008 on their calendars, as this is the exact date that Yngwie Malmsteen will be issuing his latest studio triumph, ‘Perpetual Flame.’ The album will be the first-ever Yngwie album to be released via Rising Force Records (distributed via Koch), while the album also marks the debut on an Yngwie album by ex-Judas Priest/Iced Earth frontman, Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens.

Twelve tracks of pure six string metallic bliss (which stretches to almost 70 minutes total), the album was produced and engineered by Yngwie himself, and mixed by Roy Z (who has previously worked with Judas Priest and Bruce Dickinson, among others). Joining Yngwie and Ripper on the album is keyboardist Derek Sherinian and drummer Patrick Johansson (Yngwie contributed bass, additional
keyboards, and vocals, as well), but on tour, Michael Troy will supply keyboards, and Bjorn Englen will be laying down the bass. A supporting tour of the U.S. and Canada is slated to run through all of October.

Single-handedly, Yngwie Malmsteen trailblazed the classical metal movement in the 1980’s. During a time when the majority of guitarists were merely copying Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie was one of the few rock guitarists to create his own instantly-identifiable playing style – which has been subsequently mimicked by countless other guitarists. Yngwie is responsible for issuing some of the metal’s all-time great guitar classics, especially such releases as 1984’s ‘Rising Force,’ 1985’s ‘Marching Out,’ 1992’s ‘Fire and Ice,’ and most recently, 2005’s ‘Unleash the Fury.’

In addition to the arrival of ‘Perpetual Flame’ in October, another career highlight is slated for that same month – Yngwie will be inducted into the Rock Walk on Monday, October 13th in Los Angeles.

Additionally a new Fender/Yngwie Malmsteen custom shop guitar will be unveiled on November 28th (with a limited run of 100 instruments) and there will be a slew of CD reissues of Yngwie classics to soon be announced. And the accolades continue to pour in – ‘Roadie Crew Magazine’ organized a poll in which 330 respected rock guitarists were asked to vote for their favorite guitarist of all-time. Yngwiechecked in at a lofty number 3, only behind fellow legends Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen. Without question, 2008 is shaping up to be the year of Yngwie.
