Why is BonJovi a Hair Metal Band?

From Zombienum2 via our House of Hair community, we get this question:

“Dee ? I really am disturbed, I have been a headbanger since birth, and I have never considered Bon Jovi as metal. I have the utmost respect in you and your music. I love Twisted Sister, as well as 99 percent of the “hair” metal bands, but Bon Jovi? I just can’t wrap my head around that. If it ain’t metal its crap.”

To answer your concerns, Dee asked BuzzChic to list the reasons why Bon Jovi does indeed ROCK:

1) Because only guys who sing metal can hit that high note in “Runaway.”
2) If anyone had good metal hair, Jon did. It’s not called the House of Hair for nothin’.
3) Rumors of Richie’s endowment rival those of Tommy Lee’s confirmed schlong.
4) Jon Bon Jovi acts as chum for very hot chicks for any rock band that tours with him. Hot chicks ready to party + Jon Bon’s married status = SCORE for bands touring with Bon Jovi. They can call themselves metal all they want.
5) Jon Bon Jovi discovered Cinderella at a club in Pennsylvania.

I play guitar and have been since the early-eighties. I am currently in the Air Force stationed in north Texas. I now have four kids who never got to see me play out with my band, I quit bands in the mid-nineties to join the military to support my family and have no regrets, I love my kids. Playing in bands didn’t give health insurance or any retirement so I had to make a hard choice.

I already have tickets to Rocklahoma, my kids are looking forward to it and I think winning this contest would be a great surprise for my wife and kids. They all know how much I love playing and how much I miss playing in a band! To have one last hurrah would be a great way to say thank you to my wife and kids and let them know everything I do, I do it for them. By the way, I played mostly in north-eastern PA and my band, Gypsy Kiss, did a few shows with a band called Arc Angel, which had a drummer at the time that Dee knows very well…

But the music doesn’t stop there for one band. Each performance will be taped and posted on the Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp website to be voted on by the public. The band with the most votes at the end of the tour will win an all-expense paid trip to attend the Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp in London this November where they will record at Abbey Road Studios, perform live, on-stage at The Cavern Club in Liverpool and win an at-home recording studio courtesy of Yamaha.

What do you win?

One winner wins a spot at the camp valued at $2500. The winner MUST be be able to either play guitar, bass, drums or sing. His/her guest may watch all the rehearsals. This prize package also includes 2 VIP tickets to all 5 days/nights of Rocklahoma. However, due to the late date, TRANSPORTATION AND HOTEL ARE NOT INCLUDED! ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FANTASY CAMP ADDITIONAL CONTEST RULES

Winner and guest will have to sign the legal disclaimer forms. Major rules include:

1. Winner and guest must be 21 or over – no exceptions! Faxed copies of driver’s licenses or other official ID will be required if you are picked as the winner. Winner and guest will also need to supply social security number for tax purposes.
2. All applicable local, state and federal laws apply.
3. Prize is non-transferable, non-substitutable and has NO cash value. NO Rain Dates, prize not transferrable to another camp, sorry.
4. YOU MUST be able to either play guitar, bass, drums or sing – this is a music performance training camp.
5. TRANSPORTATION and LODGING ARE NOT INCLUDED! You must drive/fly yourself to Rocklahoma and also take care of your own lodging.
