WINNERS ANNOUNCED! Congratulations to our Queensryche CD and Poster Contest Winners!
GRAND PRIZE WINNER
Stephanie Armusik
Orange Park, FL
103.7 Gainesville Florida
Her winning entry:
I was turned onto Queensryche in the latter half of the 1980’s. I can remember distinctly a Christmas morning where my older brother received, as a gift, the Operation Mindcrime album. He always liked to play new music for my mom and I to hear and this time was no different. I was instantly hooked. I proceeded to ‘borrow’ his tape of O:M until I finally got it for myself. I can also remember seeing the videos on Headbanger’s Ball back when it was on from midnight to 3am every Saturday night/Sunday morning. I started to get really into them once I began to collect the previous albums (the EP, Warning, Rage for Order) and I found that I liked those albums even more than O:M - if that’s even possible! So obviously, once I got the date of the Empire release, I was standing at the record store doors the morning of the release! Where I lived in Pennsylvania, we didn’t get ANY good concerts - especially not a band like QR. But ironically, right before the Live album came out, QR scheduled a show an hour south of my hometown. I was very excited and was looking forward to getting the tickets and going. But then I ruined everything by getting caught throwing a party at my house when my parents were out of town (mind you, I was only 15!). So along with everything I owned, the QR concert got the boot. Being in this particular age group, I was very vulnerable mentally. I contemplated hurting myself, but ultimately I got out of that ‘funk’ by listening to QR’s music! They basically saved my life - THANK YOU! Since then, I have stayed true to them. Again with the Promised Land album, I waited in line to buy the album when it came out AND I had a fever that day to boot! I am also known to travel great distances to see them! No trip is too far if my schedule allows it! I have seen them many times in many different places including Pittsburgh, PA (2), Wilkes Barre, PA (3), Newark, DE (1), Jacksonville, FL (1), Holmdel, NJ (1). I now live in Florida and am looking forward to seeing them again soon! I am also in the process of applying the beautiful Tri-Ryche symbol to my body in the form of a tattoo. In my previous residence, I had a room in my house with a wall dedicated to them, I have crafted art projects in their honor, my car has been decorated with their decal for years now not to mention the key chain and matching necklace!; and I have been a long term fan club member! Considering all the above facts - I believe that I can be considered a TRUE QR fan!!! Through thick and thin - I have supported them to the fullest and will continue to do so as long as they decide to grace this earth with their music! They will forever rock my world!!!! Ryche ‘N Roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Operation: Mindcrime and Queensryche blew my mind when it came out. Really the first album that combined everything I love about METAL. The great vocals of Geoff Tate, Scott Rockenfield’s awesome drumming and the twin guitars of DeGarmo and Wilton, with Eddie Jackson holding down the bottom end. The story line- the whole concept behind it is simply awesome, been a fan ever since I got that on cassette way back in 1988, I was just in the ninth grade. The reason Queensryche rocks my world in one word: BRILLIANT!

I was a junior in high school; when “Queensryche” was released and I flat out loved the band and the album…new band, new sound. I attempted in vain to sell my compatriots on this new, up and coming band; to no avail. They agreed the tunes were “OK” but couldn’t get behind a band that only produced four songs for their premier and felt that coughing up cash for a four cut album wasn’t fiscally smart; the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. “Warning” further solidified, in my mind, that Queensryche was a progressive, metal band with a new sound that had staying power…then “Rage For Order”. With a look from “Streets of Fire”, keyboard action equal to guitars, that progressive sound and a tune list without a dud; what a phenomenal album. “Operation Mindcrime” pushed Queensryche over the top for me and they remain one of my favorite bands today. I was fortunate to see the Mindcrime tour in Pensacola, Florida and the predominantly military audience, many who were deployed to Desert Shield/Storm, completely ate up their reference to the war, “…as we pay for wars in Saudi Arabia”. I wear out my Mindcrime DVD through overuse, which my wife doesn’t understand…she’s not worthy. Anyway, what better replacement for a worn DVD than a coming home performance with the return of Pamela Moore as Sister Mary and Ronnie James Dio, another phenomenal performer and personal favorite, as Dr X.

I am an Iraq War Veteran and 1 thing I will always remember is the weekend I returned from deployment, me and my best friend from grade school loaded up in my 280Z and went to Jacksonville Florida War Memorial and caught Queensryche and Suicidal Tendencies! One Awesome Concert!!!! It was the greatest form of appreciation I could have received. My Best Bud telling me Thank You for my service and keeping him and his family safe and free, Then hearing Screaming Heavy Metal which I was unable to get being over in the Persian Gulf. I will never forget sharing my “Welcome Home Party” with him or Queensryche. Quick Salute to you Dee for all you do for us forgotten Head Bangers. LONG LIVE TWISTED SISTER ROCK N ROLL

When I first heard the song “Warning”, I thought what an awesome voice. I then saw Queensryche on tour for first time during their “Rage for Order”, and seeing them live - I knew they were a force to be reckoned with. That’s when I dug deeper to find ALL that they had done so far, because I was just amazed at watching them live. The Talent in that band is beyond anything I had ever seen. I told ALL my friends about this band, if they hadn’t heard of them yet, and made a point to check them out anytime they came around close to me. I’ve seen Queensryche in the states and I’ve seen Queensryche in Europe. That being in the ’80s, and now 25 years later - I STILL feel the same way. What a rush I get when I know you guys are gonna be playing, and I’m gonna see ya. You guys are TRULY one of my all time favorite bands! REVOLUTION

i have been queensryche’s biggest fan since they put out their first album ( which i still have on vinyl!!) I also have every album they have put out since! the first four on vinyl also!! geoff tate’s lyrics were very inspiring in my life and everytime I hear him sing , it reminds me of better days .. I think all of the “ryche’s ” music is phenomenal, the guitar work of degarmo is above perfect. michael wilton is also a guitar hero of mine. i think that operation :mindcrime is their best work to date and it shows all of us just how heavy metal should be , not just bang your head ( which is how i got thru life) but it must have meaning! and queensryche:s music has all of that and more!!. i have been their biggest fan and always will be and it would be a great honor to receive anything from this band. please consider my entry as not from a person who listens to heavy metal such as queensryche , but to a person who thinks music is a number 1 priority in life and is willing to show anyone that it is!!! i wish the house of hair was on more often in mid michigan because there really is no other station ( except z-93) that will play the music that has meant so much in my life!! thanks for “listening” and always remember to keep the heavy metal faith!! i will always be listening to you!~

I’ve been a fan since the 80’s. At the turn of the century, new year’s day 2000, I was laying in bed with a massive hang over. I had no intentions of getting up until the entire day was wasted. There was a knock on my door. I didn’t even want to answer the door but it was my best buddy hollering at me to get my ass up. He asked if I wanted to go to a concert, I said no I’m in terrible shape, and broke. He said, we’ve got an extra ticket, so it’s free for you. I said I really feel bad today. He said, “It’s Queensryche Operation mind crime”… .. “LET ME GET DRESSED AND GRAB MY JACKET!” Playin’ at their own home backyard area, in Seattle, for their greatest fans and friends, I thought they must be giving us their best performance ever. It sounded like it anyway. It was the best concert I’d ever been to. I’ve since realized that they always give their best, but I still think that day was something special, magical, spectacular, a momentous occasion in Queensryche history! What a show! I’m honored to say that I melted a bic lighter above my head for Queensryche for Y2K. These guy’s ROCK.

i saw them open up for Kiss when they only had their EP released. the talent that i witnessed that night was incredible!!!!! queensryche only had themselves and their instruments and it was the most flawless perfect playing of music that i have ever heard!!!!! since then i was hooked. I listened to them all the time; every song ,note, and lyric. they were great to listen to, whatever the mood you were in. And still to this day with all of the music out there i have to hear them at least once a day!!!!

Queensryche is the best. The ability to create music and touch someone’s soul is a rarity these days, but Queensryche still has the ability to do this after all these years. Queensryche was one of the first bands to actually use their minds and send a message to their listeners. In honor of the great Goeff Tate, I named my son Tate. Michael (Whip) Wilton and Mike Stone are two of the best guitar players this generation has seen. And with Eddie Jackson and Scott Rockenfield holding a solid foundation, Queensryche has the complete package. Any chance I get, I always try to persuade someone to listen, yes actually listen to this music with a message Queensryche has brought to us.

I have been following this band since the 80’s, think Geoff Tate has one of the best voices in rock n roll and believe that they create a full, expressive sound/story with their music. My most memorable trip to see them was when they were on tour for Operation Mindcrime. I wasn’t able to catch them in NY, where I lived at the time, so me and my boyfriend at the time drove up to Hartford, CT to see them. I didn’t even tell my parents that I was going to CT to see a concert. Needless to say, the show was amazing, but my car broke down in the Bronx on the drive home (later found out it was the water pump that went). It took 3 trains, 1 bus and 4 hours to get home from the Bronx, which means it was about 6 am before we got back to Brooklyn. I then had to tell my parents where I had been because I needed them to help me get the car back and fixed. I was busted and embarassed that I got caught, but that show was worth it and I’d do it again! My second most memorable occassion to see them was at a small club in Dewey Beach a few years ago. It was Halloween, but since the weather was beautiful, the show was moved to a location further down the road that was open to the outside, but small enough that you could see the band easily from anywhere in the club. It was interesting to see how many people were dressed up in halloween costumes and at the show. It was a last minute decision to go on the part of me and my husband, but we were both thrilled that we made the decision and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. For their dedication to their fans (doing meet and greets - I’ve met people who have been to them and liked the band) to their amazing music, I will always stop to listen to/see Queensryche.

Queesnryche rocks my world so much that I had the triryche tattooed between my shoulder blade (ouch!). I have traveled over 700 miles to see them play in Northern Michigan in the dead of winter, Geoff Tate has the best vocals of anyone out there today and yesterday and they have talent too! Operation Mindcrime was brilliant and the OMII has been just as powerful although not mainstream. Queensryche rocks my world all the time, especially when my mom cringes at the sight of the tattoo, I can still irritate her like I was 17 again! That is cool! (Luv ya mom but you will never get it!) I have seen the band 12 times in the last 20 years and no other band can touch that with me! Rock on Geoff, Scott, Whip, Ed Bass and Stone! You will always be my band!

Queensryche rocks my world because they define what Metal should be about: Great vocals, intelligent lyrics, and a one of kind sound. The fact they are originators and pioneers of progressive hard rock has resulted in the longevity and dedicated fan base that every band strives for, but very few attain. I would consider Queensryche the ultimate live band. Every time I have been to a Queensryche show, they have delivered a killer and tight performance. Geoff Tate is one of the rare front men out there that can deliver consistently time after time. His vocals are unmistakable and always on!! Geoff is also an individual who is not afraid to talk and sing about controversial subjects. He is straightforward and willing to speak his mind! That is rare nowadays, and something I really respect and appreciate. Michael Wilton is also a very underrated axeman. . They also play songs from all throughout their history live. They understand that people want to hear the new and older classic songs live. It is great to hear songs like The lady wore black and Walk in the Shadows along with I’m American and other new classics Plus they are a band that has put out a bonafide metal classic: Operation Mindcrime is a top ten classic metal album of all time, hands down. It was one of the first metal concept albums that was a complete masterpiece. Let’s hope that Queensryche will continue to rock our world for many more years to come. Long live the Ryche

Queensryche has been rocking my world ever since the 1st EP came out. The lady wore black and the Queen of the Ryche had me floored. And then with a follow up with the Warning. WOW. Take hold of the flame. The only other person that can screem like that is Dee. I have everything that Queensryche has ever produced including Mindcrime at the Moore which is totally awesome. We are about to head to Cleveland at the House of Blues to see the concert next month which is over a 2 1/2 hour drive on a work night. But if anything like the video it will be worth it. Besides, last year we drove 2 hours to the Palace Theater in Greensburgh Pa just for a band member to get sick and cancel the show. Geoff Tate and Queensryche has a following and I am at the TOP. On top of it all I am a recently retired Army vetern with over 21 years of service and 2 Tours of duty in Iraq who is just starting to get his mullet back from 1984 and I LOVE IT. LONG LIVE METAL

I have been rocking to the Ryche since 1986… I remember now…it was on the way home from a high school basketball practice and I heard them on a tape in my buddies car…I am sure it was a camaro. With Geoff’s voice and the music to go with it I was hooked after the first few notes. I have seen them live many times since, and it has been great seeing them over the past several years in Tucson. It was all highlighted on Sunday, July 15, 2007…A date that will live in infamy…I am sure Dee, that you remember this date as well…WASP could not make it, so in steps Queensryche…getting the crowd set for the end of the greatest weekend of music known to man. I am still wishing that weekend was still going on…Rocklahoma was the event of a lifetime, and with the Ryche stepping up and setting the stage for the grand finale, what else needs to be said…Take Hold the Flame you SMF’s…

Well Dee, The ryche is one of those band that once you listen to them your hooked. I can remember the day that Operation Mindcrime came out. One of my best friends and I went to the local Music land to pick the cassette up we could hardly wait to get to the car and hear it. And let me tell you Dee we were not disappointed at all. I believe that it should be one of the Heavy Metal staples in every body’s collection. Need I say any more? I think not. Stevil

me and a buddy used to sit around in the summer on the porch w the speakers pulled thru the windows in a very nice neighborhood jammin from the first ep to mindcrime.i ws in germany for 10 years and sometimes the only thing to do to get thru the bad times was to throw in a queensryche video live in japan and forget all my worries or maybe a twisted sister album .

Is there a better voice in Metal than Geoff Tate? I don’t think so!!! People say the best thing about Seattle is the coffee. WRONG!!!! Those people have obviously never heard Queensryche!!!! Whatever your mood, whatever the time of day, throwing in a disc from these guys can make everything OK again!!!!

I have been a fan of Queensrÿche since 1991.In the last 16 years, ever since I heard Jet City Woman on the radio, I was hooked and never looked back. I went back after that and started buying previous work for them and was so laid back in my seat listening to the older stuff and thinking, wow how in the hell did I miss hearing these guys alot sooner than 91? When it took them nearly 4 years to release Promised Land I was a bit disappointed because I was wanting more. I could not and still cannot get enough of their music. I have enjoyed listening to what those guys can come up with. They are like no other band out there when it comes to writing and performing live. One of the best around at it. I have never had the chance to see them perform live in person. I have many “bootlegs” from over the years which I have grown to enjoy collecting and trading among other fans for free. I do have Mindcrime at the moose on DVD already but I don’t have an autographed copy of it, which would be awesome if I did have the poster at least autographed by them. Mindcrime at the Moore was awesome and I have watched it many, many times in the last few weeks. It has never made it far from the DVD player.

They’ve rocked my world since the first day I saw them live at Haymakers (with TWISTED SISTER) in Illinois is 1983. Queensryche is one of the very few bands left on the planet who can still be creative, innovative and exciting with their music without sacrificing their style and genre of music; they still look great and they truly are an exciting heavy metal band! Rock on, Queensryche–I’m definitely one of your biggest fans in the great State of Wisconsin.

When I was Stationed in Seattle Washington Queensryche was playing in local pubs and my buddies and I would go watch them play all the time. Then when they played at the collisum downtown we got to meet up with the group and had to buy extra tickets and had the band sign them to put in a frame and put it on the wall for decor. I have followed the band since and would like to have more of their stuff in the room. So for now keep on rockn with the House of Hair. Thank You.

Who or What is Beatallica?
"All hail the mighty Beatallica!! What happens when you combine the greatest band of the 60’s with the greatest band from the 80’s? You get the greatest band of the 21st century! Everything these guys touch turns to gold (or at least metal)… Their wit and musical execution is pure brilliance and sheer genius! " - Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)
Hey, you gotta love and respect guys that were able to think up this wild mashup, and convince not only Metallica to approve, but get the rights to use the Beatles catalog as well. So, the HOH is stoked to team up with Beatallica and give listeners a shot for not only their new “Sgt. Hetfield’s Motorbreath Pub Band” CD, but a killer Autographed black Dean, model ML X guitar.
"Beatallica’s journey to create this album has taken many twists and turns resulting in an Internet Phenomenon story, 1 million + views for their website, scores of supporters including Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy and the birth of the fan legion known as The Beatallibangers. Metallica’s Lars Ulrich approval and blessing was the beginning of realizing the dream. When The Beatles music publishers gave their approval, it legitimized the beast that is Beatallica into a fully authorized bash-up creation and cleared the way to unleash upon the world the newly recorded, Sgt. Hetfield’s Motorbreath Pub Band."

Ozzy Autographed Poster and Black Rain CD Giveaway
July 18, 2007

WINNERS ANNOUNCED! Congratulations to our Ozzy Contest Winners!
Our Grand Prize Winner of the Autographed Ozzy poster And Ozzy Osbourne CD “Black Rain”:
Raft Spaner
Bridgeport CT
station: I-95
Ozzy…..one of the Godfathers of Metal. I still remember the first time I heard Black Sabbath. I was about five years old, sitting in front of one of my dad’s stereo speakers. He was playing some of his albums (remember those???), and I told him I wanted to hear something LOUDER. So, good old dad slaps on Black Sabbath’s first record. He plays the song Black Sabbath. DAMN!!!! The intro was actually scary for a child. Then the huge sinister riff comes in….and after that this voice starts singing about the devil and shit. Oh my god, it made a lasting impression on me. I kept asking my father to play that record. I loved it. As I grew older, I bought my own Sabbath tapes, all of them. Later, I got into Ozzy’s solo work. This was different than Sabbath, but it still rocked….especially with Randy on guitar. That damn voice is just so original. I love it. I can’t wait to see him at Ozzfest. His free ticket idea - I don’t think anyone has done something like this for a whole tour. He is one of the best metal singers, not because he has an incredible range or anything like that. I think it is because he is an original. His unique voice and his attitude have set him apart from a lot of others. I also love Ozzy because he is not a quitter. He has had many horrible things happen to him throughout his life. He always seems to come through. I give him a lot of credit for being a survivor. Keep the faith, Ozzy!!!

I have been an Ozzy fan since the album Black Sabbath, with all the old stuff. NIB is one of my favorites. I’m very fortunate to have seen Ozzy with Randy Rhoads at the Veterans Memorial here in Columbus right before he died . That was the Crazy Train tour. It was amazing to see the chemistry they had and I had tickets to see them at the Fair Coliseum when I heard on the radio he died and the concert was on hold. It was good to hear Ozzy was safe and he still kept the tour going. Ozzy is a legend and his music and voice will never be matched. His darkside is awesome and I am lucky to have seen him 5 times and watch him grow as one of the best left to represent true rock and roll. He brings back the young years to me of being crazy and going to 3 concerts a month. I was 12 when I first saw him and 38 when I saw him last. I hope I see him again. OZZY RULES!

I have my kids listening to Ozzy also. I have been listening to Ozzy since I was fourteen now I am thirty seven and I’m still rocking to Ozzy every day. Ozzy is the prince of darkness and Ozzy rules the metal !

I am a 50 year old metal head who is always crankin’ the tunes that pisses of my neighbors. And how could I be a metal head without the godfather of metal..Ozzy Osbourne? He is the one that started it all. From his great Sabbath days, to his reign as metal king in the 80’s….I just love all of his work. And to have something autographed by him, that would be a dream come true. Along with the CD, I would be forever grateful for what you have done her e with the House of Hair. You are carrying the flag for real metal, and I thank you for it. I deserve to win this contest because I know I am the ultimate Ozzy fan, and if you met me, you would think no different.

I LOVE OZZY for many reasons, but the two that stand out the most to me are, 1. I was at a concert on what we used to call City Island here in Harrisburg I was very young at the time not even a teenager yet and I heard Ozzy’s music being played on the PA system before the bands came on and he just BLEW ME AWAY I vowed that I would see him in concert and try to own every song he ever recorded. I don’t believe I own every song, but I have been Lucky enough to see him twice as Ozzy and once as Ozzy Lead singer of Black Sabbath and let me tell you what if I would have died at those concerts I would have died Happy because he delivers a GREAT SHOW. The second reason I LOVE OZZY so much is because he showed me no matter what they say no matter what you look like and no matter what you do, if you try and try and try again you will make it. They told him he wouldn’t make it as a Rock star and he is a Rock God they told him he could not be part of lalapuluza and thank god they did because Thanks to their IGNORANCE we have OZZFEST the BEST ROCK SHOW AROUND. So if I win or not it doesn’t matter as much as sharing my LOVE of OZZY The HIGHS and the lows of the MAGIC MUSIC he makes is the BEST. Thank you for the chance to voice my thoughts. P.S. Dee Snyder keep ROCKIN us with the Ho use of Hair it makes a weekend in this small town tolerable. Thanks Brother.

I love Ozzy and only Ozzy because he tells it like it should be. From all his songs you can tell that he cares alot about the world and the shit that is wrong with it. If people would listen to the words in his songs they would maybe be a little nicer to everyone around them and a little nicer to the world as a whole. Ozzy doesn’t care too much about what people think, he just tells them how he feels. He talks a lot about love in the world. This makes me love Ozzy even more, I love his music because it makes me rock out and get pumped up. But if you listen to his lyrics, they really make you think and they encourage people to be nicer and to love more in the world. I think that if everyone in the world was like Ozzy, the world would be a lot safer, people would help one another and treat everyone the way they would want to be treated. Ozzy is the best because he is the way everyone should be, Thank GOD for Ozzy Osbourne. Ther e are two people I would like to meet, one is dead, and he was the son of God. He would have been amazing to meet. To hear His voice and see loving eyes would have stopped people from killing other people. The other person I’d like to meet is Ozzy, he I think is misunderstood by the general public, but all in all I think he is a fantastic person who should be listened to by everyone that can hear him, if people followed the words in his songs and thought about what he was talking about things would be better for everyone. Ozzy live on forever! Derek the Destroyer

Because he’s the prince of FXcking Darkness, that’s why! Ozzy and The rest of the guys from Sabbath (Toni, Geezer, and Mr. Bill Ward) Pioneered and paved the way for the sound of music today. If “OZZY ZIG” didn’t get his “Gig” and Sabbath was never formed who knows what kind of God-awful space-moon music we’d be listening to today. It’d be crap. That’s for sure. Everything would probably sound like Hansen.. Thank GOD FOR THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS.. p.s. I have 300$ worth of Ozzy tats done on my leg and a Tattoo of Zakk Wyldes BLACK LABEL SOCIETY on my shoulder. AND THAT’S WHY I LOVE OZZY!!!!!! when god said let there be Rock, Ozzy simply replied “Thank you good night, we love you all”!!!!

I am 45 years old and listen to HOH every Saturday night. I have been a OZZY fan since Black Sabbath. In 1984 I took my 6 month old daughter to get his autograph at Peaches Records in Indianapolis. Because he had been touring and was missing his own daughter, Kelly, he was very taken by Brandy and took her from my arms and stopped the signing long enough to hug her and give her a kiss on the cheek. The newspaper asked, ” Why didn’t you bite her head off?” I thanked him, He thanked me and I walked off with my autographed “Bark At The Moon” album and my Daughter, which I still cherish BOTH today. Keep up the good work Dee. Mike

I started Listening to Ozzy when I was 12 years old. My first cassette was Bark at the Moon. I remember the day I got it in the mail I was home sick from school that day. I remember that I puked after I listened to it. I have been an Ozzy fan ever since. I listened to Ozzy everyday from that day on. I am married now with 3 kids and my 2 boys like to listen to metal with their old man. My second son was born on December 3, the same day as Ozzy, my wife vetoed my idea for a name but that’s ok you have to choose your battles. Why do I love Ozzy simple, listening to Ozzy is my escape from reality, It takes me back to the care free days of headbanging with all of my buddies and running from the cops when we were in trouble! I will always be an Ozzy fan as well as all metal. Thanks Dee for all of the great memories that you bring back with the House of Hair. Ken Wasson P.S. STRANGELAND 2 ???

I have a shrine with candles, headless bats and doves, and incense (with maybe even a little bit of blood) under my Ozzy Osbourne and Randy Rhoads silk tapestry. I even have a plastic Ozzy figure on the front of my Harley! I still have my Black Sabbath Reunion Tour tickets to the Salt Lake City show they cancelled. I never returned them to get my money back, even though the cancelled show was 9 years ago. I’m a 38 year old, long haired, tattooed, Harley ridin’, driving the ol’ lady crazy when I crank it up, “swallowing the colors of the sounds I hear”, old school rocker! NOBODY RULES BUT OZZY!

I was about 7 years old when I first heard Ozzy coming from my older sisters room. I didn’t know who or what it was but I knew I loved it. The first song I ever hear d from Ozzy was “Mr. Crowley”. He was my introduction into metal and the reason I started to play music. I never missed an Ozzy show in Phoenix since the “Retirement Sucks tour”. I have a shrine to Ozzy that consists of posters, toys, newspaper clippings, clothes, picks, and other swag. Ozzy was a “hero” of mine as well. He showed me that if I work hard towards my dreams I can achieve them. And that no matter how hard life is it is worth living.

the myth, the legend, the excess. ozzy is metal, great bands have come and gone, but there are only a handful of icons that have lasted the test of metal and time. ozzy is quite possibly the godfather of metal, the man that started the 80s metal revolution. and 25 years later he is still releasing great metal material. when you see him in concert, he still goes all out, he still demands your attention and receives it. yes age is creeping in on our ozzy, but no matter what the future brings, ozzy ozbourne is the epitome of the metal movement.

Dear Dee, Way back in 1983 my husband and I first met. Our first official date was a “MONSTERS OF ROCK” tour. He couldn’t believe I loved the music. Then he took me home with him and I immediately went to his record albums. I selected “Black Sabbath”=2 0by Black Sabbath and cranked it to 11!! He was totally enthralled as I sang along to every song. We fell in love with each other, with Ozzy as our background. Skip 18 years into the future, we’re still in love and still listening to the Oz man. Lo and behold we become parents. It is awesome. Two years back my son and I bought the Ozzy boxed set “Prince of Darkness” for his Papa. We didn’t play it when he was awake because we didn’t want to damage his ears. It is best at top volume. Then one day our son noticed the bonus DVD in the box , put it on, and I’m telling you our 4 year old went ape-shit. He kept making everyone be quiet and replayed it over and over until we took the remote away. Now we play it in front of him, usually his choice now. It’s in his blood. And ours. So thanks Dee for Keeping our music alive for future generations like our little rocker. IF IT AIN’T METAL , IT’S CRAP!!!! Thanks from Eileen in Gainesville

I have grown up listening to Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. I h ave met Ozzy once before. My girlfriend got tickets to The Jimmy Kimmel Live Show in May out in LA, and we drove all the way from Illinois to California just so I could see him. As you can tell I would cross the country to see him live. I own every album he has ever put out and every album he put out with Black Sabbath. I have never missed an Ozzfest or Ozzy concert. The funny thing is, I was given the nickname Ozzy because I look like him in many ways. So, if I win this contest, it would be an honor for me since I am his biggest fan.

Ozzy’s been a friend of mine. Not a close, personal friend, but the friend on the radio who keeps me company when I’m otherwise alone. When things are strange, and life is messed, there is always an Ozzy song that fits. I can listen to him hour after hour and day after day. Every time I hear the music, the lyrics, the songs, I hear something different. Ozzy’s music never gets old, it’s always got something to say to me, in one way or another. Ozzy’s rocked me out in good times, and made me feel sane when I was going off the rails of my own crazy train. Easily the best of the best, he’s Ozzy!

I love Ozzy for reasons far too numerous to count. I first heard Ozzy with Sabbath when I was 6. I’m now 36 - that’s 30 years. If it weren’t for his songs I would have killed myself. A permanent solution to a temporary problem. Ozzy has been such an influence in my life and in the lives of many. I became a true Metalist when I became an Ozzy and Sabbath fan. He was my breakthrough. I truly would have gone nuts if it weren’t for songs like Sweet leaf, Over the mountain, Crazy train, Goodbye to romance, Bark at the moon, Sabbath bloody Sabbath, etc. I learned that there is more to life than meets the eye. For instance we are so not “monkey People’ but are celestial beings having a human experience. I learned how to love and forget how to hate, how over the mountain take me to the other side, how we don’t need astrology it is indeed inside of you and me…Rock-n- roll-heavy metal is my gospel, my religion, and my love….It’s a way of life. It keeps me centered, sane, open to evolve and strong when this world ,this reality beats me down. I thank Ozzy and God for keeping me alive, awake, and in a constant state of spiritual evolution. Ozzy is a blessing in my life because we are both “crazy” in our honesty. They call everyone who has ever “gone against the grain crazy .Supposedly Abraham Lincoln, Einstein, Ghandi, Kennedy every great scientist, philosopher, writer, artist, poet, revolutionary, genius has been labeled crazy at one time or another, even Christ was crazy. It pisses me off to no end that people call Mr. Osbourne crazy evil etc because he’s entirely opposite he’s a genius. Ozzy is sacred to me for so many reasons but most of all because he’s inspired so many artist, his lyrics have saved so many people from perpetuating what truly does not exist “mental illness” If everyone who has heard voices and had visions stigmatized by those kinds of label we wouldn’t ever have physics, visionaries, musicians, doctors, prophets poet. Thank you Ozzy for paving the way of generations to come. I shall smoke a fat one in your honor…Much love + infinite blessings=Rock-on LOUD+PROUD=Always*Sweet Leaf*the original Sin Virginia Magdelene ps I could write a whole book about how Mr. Osbourne has inspired me and what his work means to me*tears no more!!!!….

I am now 38 and still a big metal head I love it all but Ozzy will always be my favorite every time he comes I go see him every new album I must have, I don’t know what I would be doing now if It wasn’t for ozzy but I do know life is good with him. They call Ozzy the God Father of Rock and for me this is true he in a way is the father of me being a metal head. And I couldn’t Dream of a better life.

Back in the early 80’s, it wasn’t easy being a fan of metal here in a town dominated by Bob Jones University. Hell, back then even the Methodists were handling snakes. It was a miracle that we ever had any metal shows come to town….Dee and his boys made an stop…I still remember parts of that show! Well anyway, Ozzy was here on the Ultimate Sin or Bark at the Moon tour and the security guards were being assbags. After the show, some local news prick shoved a mike in Ozzys face and the Prince of Darkness just exploded on him telling the news guy that we were kids and to leave us the fuck alone. I’ve loved that motherfucker ever since. Then in the 90’s, Sharon had an on-air showdown with some Bob Jones people that were trying to stop a show in Greenville and were using the same tired lies that they’ve always told. Dude, that woman kicked their asses! “You can’t kill rock and roll” on Diary of a madman says it all. The metal guys did it their way for better or worse and I will always respect people for doing it their way. There are way too many followers out there in popular music now. Metal will be back…..motherfuckers. So take your tape recorders and samples and fucking white bread bullshit emo hoodies and shove ‘em up your ass! I love you all as long as you love metal! fuckin’ regards, McCoyBoy

There are so many reasons why I love Ozzy, so i’ll try my best to explain it to you guys. To me, Ozzy is Heavy Metal……PERIOD!!. There is no debate on that one. If it wasn’t for Black Sabbath and Ozzy himself, there probably wouldn’t be bands like Metallica, Slayer, Kiss, etc, etc. I mean, at the time, the early 1970s, bands like Led Zeppelin, Clapton, The Doors were ruling the music scene…..So when Ozzy, a simple small town British born boy from Birmingham, England formed Black Sabbath and came from outta nowhere with this new form of music called “Metal”, and yes, on that day, Heavy Metal was born. Ozzy truly is the “Godfather Of Heavy Metal”. His voice, his lyrics, his whole lifestyle is the essence of Metal Music. No matter what kind of mood I am in, I just listen so some Ozzy, and I feel like a million bucks!!!. And he was one of the few Metal singers that had the balls to stand up to the fatcat politicians when they tried to shut him and his music down when his solo career was just taking off. For almost 40 years, Ozzy, after all he has endured, still rocks!!!!!!. He is without a doubt one of the greatest performers in music, and is a Metal God!!!!!!!

Our HOH 2nd Grand Prize Winners:
The Korotkins Rocklahoma Blog!
by Ronna and David Korotkin of Ellicott City, Maryland who listen to 98Rock!
Dee and the HOH Staff,
All we can say is Thank God you picked a second grand prize winner!! Rocklahoma rocked!!! This was the best concert line-up I have ever seen. Not only did you put together some of the very best rock bands from the ‘80s, but The House of Hair treated us like rock royalty. Our seats were incredible – front and center. We were only a few feet away from some of the greatest bands of all time. I never had such great concert seats in all my life. We were so close to Stephen Pearcy, Bret Michaels and Vince Neil that there were times I didn’t even use the zoom on my camera!
Leave it to The House of Hair - they did not miss a thing. VIP seats, VIP parking, and meeting so many of the musicians that rocked my teenage years. We were treated to meet & greets and interviews with bands like RATT, Warrant, Vince Neil, Queensryche and of course the most spectacular band of the weekend – Twisted Sister! Dee, you are the greatest and so are A.J., Jay Jay, Mark and Eddie. Twisted Sister was so much fun to hang out with. Truly a dream come true. Who would have thought I would be hanging out back stage with a group I first saw in concert when I was in college. I kept thinking that these are the same guys that came up on stage through the sewers and manhole covers and blew me away back then – and they are blowing me away again right now! The highlight of the weekend came when we got to sit on the stage – just as Dee promised - when Twisted Sister performed in front of 35,000 people. This was a thrill of a lifetime and Dee even called out to the fans and pointed us out onstage. Wow!!
The House of Hair gave us one of the most incredible experiences of our lives, and Rocklahoma is something all of the headbangers from the ‘80s should do at least once. Even non-headbangers like my husband need to do it. Dee, I know you may find it hard to believe but my husband was rockin’ with the rest of us, devil horns raised high! He got a kick out of it when you pushed him out of the way just to hug me (which I loved by the way), calling him some New Wave guy. But I wouldn’t have gotten to Rocklahoma without him and it is an experience we will share and talk about for the rest of our lives.
Thank you The House of Hair, thank you Rocklahoma and thank you Dee for picking a second grand prize winner,
July 17, 2007 Ronna Korotkin and my wonderful husband Dave, who now has a much greater appreciation and love for hair metal bands

Rocklahoma Day 4: July 15th
Bittersweet is the only word that can define Sunday. I knew that would be the day I got to meet Dee Snider and the other members of Twisted Sister, but it also meant that my journey was coming to an end.
Among the bands that performed the last day were: Steelheart, Britny Fox, L.A. Guns, Great White, Jackyl, Queensryche, and last but not even close to least, Twisted Sister. I probably sound like a broken record, but once again, the fans were brought to the edge of frenzy by the songs that they grew up with.
Paul Black of L.A. Guns followed the steps of some of the other lead-singers and walked the seat backs to sing among the screaming fans. Tracii Guns dazzled the audience with his guitar playing. Paul Stewart beat the drums to a pulp, and bassist Jeremy Guns played so hard we could feel it in our chests. “Ballad of Jane” brought back the good old days.
Jackyl “Lumberjack”ed their way into our hearts. A real chainsaw was used for the opening part of the song and then later used to destroy a barstool on stage. The broken pieces of the stool were passed out to some of the fans in front of the stage. We even got to see the lead-singer’s hiney as he took much pleasure in mooning the audience. Riotous applause reverberated throughout the venue.
While the past few days had been a blast, what I had been waiting for since my phone call from Dee to tell me I had won, was meeting him and the rest of the band. As Great White played on stage, my boyfriend and I were at Twisted Sister’s press conference. We then went to the HOH Lounge where we got tons of pictures taken with them and got autographs from the entire group.
Dee Snider is a man who is larger than life. He has a smile and demeanor that go straight to your heart and soul. I used to think he was really cool, but now when I hear his name, I see his face that day and the word that comes to mind is reverence.
After Queensrÿche performed, it was time to meet Dee and the gang in full costume for even more pictures. When he walked out, all I could say was “Hell yea!” Of course, everyone laughed. I couldn’t help myself; I was in awe.
We originally thought we would once again be on the elevated platform at the side of the stage to watch their performance. Much to our surprise, we were literally seated ON THE STAGE not 10 feet from the bassist. I cannot put into words the quality of their set.
Dee had said earlier in their press conference that “Every band goes on trying to mop the stage with the last one. We intend to mop the stage with every last one of them.”
Someone grab a bucket, because that is exactly what happened. “Captain Howdy” made an appearance. The entire venue screamed “I Wanna Rock”. The music world was given 35,000 mutual opinions of what we thought of “today’s” attempts at music, in that “We’re Not Gonna Take It”. As if their larger than life personalities weren’t enough, they felt it necessary to give us Christmas in July, filling the air with snow as they did their version of “Silver Bells”. Candy canes flew through the air to raised fists and horns.
The lights have gone dark, and the stage is now empty. This Twisted Sister’s “Come Out and Play” weekend came to a bittersweet end. Yet, my spirit burns bright with the revelations that I made over those four short days. My inner teenager will always stay at the surface instead of hiding behind maturity. Rock & Roll keeps you young!
But, what really hit home was what hit me when I kept waiting all weekend for someone to ask who my favorite band is from back in the day. I realize now that it’s not only impossible to choose just one, it’s also unnecessary. Like them, hate them, or love them, they were (and still are) ALL the voice of an entire generation.
As it turns out, the era is not dead, it is not buried, it is not OVER! Raise your horns America. Call your radio stations. Tell them you’re not going to take this cookie-cutter commercial crap anymore. We are the ones who buy the CDs and merchandise. Don’t stand by and let some corporate p.o.s. buy a house with your money because he decided what you should listen to. Rock & Roll is here to stay.
We laid a foundation for it in Pryor, Oklahoma in July 2007. We will build on that foundation every year until our numbers stand so strong and tall we have a true beacon of hope for future generations to look up to. As for me, I will be at Rocklahoma next year! I hope to see every last one of you there! There’s room for everyone, and even if it was at capacity, we could always make room for just one more.
If it ain’t Metal, It’s Crap!

Rocklahoma Day 3: July 14th
Saturday brought a mixture of different strains of Rock & Roll. Among the more than 10 bands that performed were Bang Tango, Bullet Boys, Faster Pussycat (Taime got upset with the guitarist and ended the set a few songs early), Firehouse, Warrant, Skid Row, Winger, Dokken, and Vince Neil. As the contest winner, I was able to go to the Meet & Greet with Warrant when they did their press conference, as well as watch their set from an elevated platform side-stage. Although Jani Lane (who I met the next day) was no longer front-man, they had no trouble giving the audience what they expected. Not surprisingly, they closed out the show with “Cherry Pie”.
My senses were overwhelmed when Skid Row performed after Warrant. Again, a different front-man made no difference at all. Their new lead-singer Johnny Solinger had a range that nearly equaled that of Sebastian’s. Scotti played his fingers to the bone, and as my boyfriend remarked, he still has that signature wickedness in his performance. Dave “the Snake” Sabo, Rachel Bolan, and drummer Dave Gara helped pull the audience back to the time when it was okay to be the “Youth Gone Wild”. They introduced some new songs as well, which were favorably received. I was already in heaven, my voice strained and almost gone from screaming and singing along the entire day, and there was one more band yet to play.
Vince Neil allowed me and my boyfriend to sit in on the HOH interview. I again got autographs and pictures. The quiet, business minded, gentleman who answered all the questions volleyed at him was a world apart from the Vince Neil who owned the stage the entire time he and his band played. For the most part, it was Mötley Crüe revisited. We were taken to the “Wildside” where there were “Girls, Girls, Girls” and we all left smiling from ear to ear. There was not a single band that disappointed on Saturday.

Rocklahoma Day 2: July 13th
While some would consider Friday the 13th an unlucky day, in Pryor, Oklahoma, I would consider it to be one of the luckiest days of my life. The line-up included a J-Pot Music contest winner, Dirty Penny. This band only proves that many today are trying to revive the music that used to make us happy to turn on the radio and dance around in our underwear. Their energy and performance were explosive, even though their set was during the day. White Lion performed as well, and I was lucky enough to meet lead singer Mike Tramp in the House of Hair Lounge. He was the first of many to autograph my white Rocklahoma t-shirt after I got my picture taken with him. But, my fun was just beginning.
As I said in my HOH contest entry, RATT was the first band I ever saw in concert. Not only did I get to meet the band that helped turn me into an ‘80s music junkie, I got photos taken and autographs from them as well. Their set was everything I expected and more. Pearcy was with RATT once again, doing what no one else could do. He belted out hits like “Round and Round” as if it were 20 years ago.
Slaughter and Quiet Riot also performed on Friday. Mark Slaughter walked the benches of the venue, singing among the screaming fans. Quiet Riot let no one down with their performance. The night was complete after hearing them perform “Cum on Feel the Noize”.
Just when we thought we couldn’t take anymore, it was time for the headliner, Poison. Standing room dwindled to non-existence as their turn neared. The fists waved, horns flew, and voices screamed as they came on stage. Their set included a laser light show, booming pyro effects, and all the original members of the band. Bret sang his heart out, C.C. made his guitar talk to the audience just like in the old days, and Bobby and Rikki did their thing with their same passion for the music. No one went away disappointed. It was as if a time-warp had pulled us back to the days of MTV when you could actually plug in and watch videos all day long.
I thought to myself on Friday, This has been more than I ever expected, and I still have two more days to go!

Rocklahoma Day 1: July 12th
Rocklahoma was not just a gathering; it was an iconic testament to the age of music that was thought to be dead, long since cremated and wrapped in the flannel that suffocated our hearts in the early 90s.
Like the mighty Phoenix, Rock and Roll not only rose from its proverbial ashes, it soared through the hearts of all who refused to let it die. The masses that attended this four day festival epitomized all that is Rock ‘n Roll.
On July 12th – 15th, 2007, I and 35,000 of my closest friends got together in Pryor, Oklahoma, and threw the biggest party that Rock ‘n Roll has seen in years. For four days and nights, the 16 year-old girl in me over-powered the 35 year-old woman I had become. I was no one’s mother, no one’s employee, no one’s student; I was simply the me that existed in its purest form.
My story goes something like this:
Rocklahoma Day one: July 12th
When we arrived at the venue, the stage hadn’t been set. The grounds were muddy from the torrential rainfall of earlier in the day. Vendors were busy setting up, selling airbrushed t-shirts, Rocklahoma memorabilia, henna tattoos, and there were even those cheesy carnival trailers that sold funnel cakes and lemonade.
Nonetheless, the air had a certain quality about it that gave you hope. Something big was on the horizon; you could feel it on your skin. The anticipation and outward happiness of every single person pouring through the gates cut through the haze in the overcast skies. As the sun peeked out from behind lingering clouds, we could hear the stage door being rolled up. Something wicked this way comes, and everyone was welcoming it with open arms.
Thursday’s lineup consisted of mostly smaller bands, some new, some foreign. Among them were Gypsy Pistoleros who had traveled all the way from the U.K. to perform. Their set was amazing, and included a cover of “Living La Vida Loca” that rocked the house and left everyone begging for more.
KISS Army also performed on Thursday, dazzling onlookers with their Gene Simmons spitting flames, oozing blood from the mouth and teasing the ladies with a little of the tongue action his “character” is so famous for. Their make-up and costumes took me back to the time when I used to listen to my KISS 8-tracks and sing to my mirror.
Rounding out Thursday, we were treated to a special all-star jam by US 66. Chad Stewart and Tracii Guns of L.A. Guns, Steven Adler of the original Guns N Roses, Michael Thomas of Faster Pussycat, Joe Lesté of Bang Tango, and others all rocked out as a special preview of things to come. To say that the crowd was tantalized would be a huge understatement.

Here is Mike’s winning entry:
Let me create a short list of why I should and will be the winner- I named my 2 dogs Dave and Mustaine. I missed naming a child Dave, only cuz she was a girl. I once passed out trying to sing the middle bridge of “Liar” in one breath…while riding a stationary bike. I did a psychology class thesis on “The effects of broken relationships on human depresson” citing the song “In my darkest hour” as my main research. I still got an A. ‘Wake Up Dead” was the entrance music to my wedding reception. I believe Dave is the only human that could outfox the Predator. The only reason Mustaine hasn’t won the presidency is his taking pity on the other candidates and not running. He is what Willis was talking about. Honestly, I have spent days, weeks and months poring over every song they have recorded, from “So Far So Good So What” through the cover of “Anarchy in the UK”, trying to find the hints that will tell me where to find the Holy Grail, because Dave knows where it is. Dave Mustaine could beat Lemmy in an arm wrestling match. His quote in an old issue of Hit Parader ( I went to a Jehovah’s Witness school. They were like “Hey brother, can I borrow some paper? and I was like “F*** you! Get your own paper!”) proves that Dave transgresses religion. Finally (and this one is completely true) My rental UHaul broke down on a cross country trip from Cleveland to San Diego, in the desert outside Tucumcari New Mexico. After over heating, the van started smoking from the engine compartment, and a small fire started that eventually spread to the interior. I ran back and climbed in to save 3 things- my smokes, a 12 pack of beer and the cassette of “Rust in Peace”. How many other contestants have risked life and limb for Megadeth? That’s what I thought!

In a website posting to his fans on the night of the album’s release, MEGADETH’S founding singer/guitarist DAVE MUSTAINE said, “I want to tell you all how much I love you and how many times I have felt like I was going to explode in anticipation just watching you hear United Abominations for the first time.” In typical MUSTAINE style, he went on to say, “Your love for Megs has fired me up to make a record I love, beyond just about anything I have ever done.
