Queensryche Replaces W.A.S.P. At Rocklahoma 2007

PRYOR, OK — The powerful, dramatic, diverse and electrifying Queensryche has joined Rocklahoma’s already historic line-up. Queensryche joined the Rocklahoma’s line-up following unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances that prevented W.A.S.P. from appearing on Sunday, July 15 at the four-day festival, explained Mark Nuessle, General Manager of Catch the Fever Music Festivals.

“We are so fortunate to have a band of such high-quality and popularity of Queensryche to step in to the vacancy left by W.A.S.P.,” said Nuessle. “Queensryche is an awesome band to add to this line-up — especially just prior to their Fall tour with Alice Cooper and Heaven and Hell.”

Queensryche, out of Seattle, is considered by many critics to be the original band that began the “Seattle Sound” that produced such groups as Nirvana and Pearl Jam. More than two decades after Queensryche’s inception, they have sold over 20 million albums, numerous hits and have consistently toured in over 22 countries world wide. Nominated for four Grammy Awards, their music has been featured in three films.

“When you look at their history and realize they’ve toured with groups such as Motley Crue, Metallica, KISS, and Bon Jovi — that they’ve had numerous Billboard hits that have remained on the charts for long periods of time worldwide — it just makes it that much more exciting that they have decided to join Rocklahoma,” said Nuessle.

The announcement of Queensryche joining Rocklahoma’s line-up will only push already-record ticket sales higher.

“This is the last chance for fans of ’80’s rock to see the largest gathering of this kind to get their discount tickets,” said Nuessle. “If they want to be a part of rock history, this is their chance.”

Tickets have sold worldwide for Rocklahoma and have been sold across six continents and throughout the United States, making Rocklahoma one of the most successful music festivals across the United States and is a part of Oklahoma’s Centennial Celebration as ’80’s rock fans will converge on the state from locations as far away as Japan, Australia and South Africa.

With VH-1 Classic Host, Eddie Trunk, as Master of Ceremonies, Rocklahoma’s now four-day line-up is:

KISS Army
an 80’s Jam from special guests

WINNERS ANNOUNCED! Congratulations to our Foghat Contest Winners!

Our Grand Prize Winner of the Autographed guitar And double CD “Foghat Live II”:

Karen Wood
Ardmore, OK
station: KWDQ FM 102.3 and KYYI FM 104.7
I’m not Foghat’s biggest fan ever, but my husband is. He became a fan while he was in the Navy back in the early 70’s. Foghat went to Vietnam with him, and has been his all-time favorite group ever since. Me, as well as his children, and all our friends automatically think of Frank when someone mentions Foghat. The group is actually part of his personality. He has every Foghat album (yes, album) and every cd they’ve ever made, and a few years ago he had the priviledge of seeing them live once again (the first time was when he was stationed in Norfolk in the early 70’s) in Oklahoma City. He actually called his navy buddies from the concert to tell them where he was and let them here “Free Ride” over his cell phone. That concert was also where he discovered their current music and found that he loves it as much as their classics. He wears his autographed t-shirt from that show whenever he needs luck! There just is no bigger fan than my husband Frank! He will be 57 in August and I’m telling you there could be no greater gift in the world than for him to win the autographed guitar. As a Foghat fan by osmosis after 31 years of marriage, I couldn’t think of anything better for my wonderful husband.

My son was conceived while my husband and I were getting busy listening to ” I Just Want To Make Love To You”. Ever since then, they have been my favorite band and I am their biggest fan ever.

Hi, I have seen Foghat about 20 times from the early 1980’s to last summer. I plan on seeing them twice this summer on Long Island and in Pennsylvania. I own every CD they ever put out, plus I bought the albums and cassettes when they came out in the 1970’s. They are my favorite band and they deserve to be in the R and R HOF, and I hope the new CD does well for them – they deserve it.

They RULE, still, after 30-something years. I was a teen in the 70’s and they were the soundtrack to my LIFE. But they’ve remained relevant through the years, and the classic “Slow Ride” is THE anthem, featured in pop culture so many times, from The Simpsons, to Dexter, that you have to be comatose or dead not to know (and love!) that great song. I have teenage boys and we ALL love Foghat — being a fan crosses generations. ANd of course who turned them on to Foghat? Me, their Mom, of course — ’cause I AM their greatest fan!

4. Ernie Cook

I’ve been a Foghat fan since their “classic” rock was new rock, a Fool For The City on a Slow Ride!! Foghat still rocks to this day, my first Foghat album (or big black disc as my daughter calls them) was “Rock and Roll” . I would love to have that guitar or their new cd release in my collection. Anyways Dee “House of Hair Rocks!!, w e listen to you every Saturday night up here in Sudbury, they say INCO moves alot of rock, I say no way, House of Hair moves more rock than INCO!! WHEN I WAS STONE BLUE… ROCK ‘N ROLL SURE HELPED ME THROUGH!!! It all started back in Central Park in 1975. While I was rocking my 14 year old ass off, Foghat’s soundman, Bob Coffee, asked my sister out (she is 13 years older in case you were wondering about Bob’s intent!). He put me in touch with the late, great Rose Stapleton who kept me involved in all things Foghat from their Port Jefferson homebase. I NEVER missed a single show in the D.C./Baltimore area including ro ad trips to NY, Philly, Delaware, NC and even a honeymoon show (my ex wasn’t too pleased!) in Florida! I was on Rockline 3 times with the guys and have met them all dozens of times over the last few decades. Lonesome Dave used to tell me that he should put me in touch with his son Jason because my collection of Foghat stuff was only rivaled by his. After Dave’s passing I finally managed to get a hold of Jason and sent him many packages of live shows and memorabilia. To this day I still follow them whenever manageable (just saw them at a biker fest in Southern MD). Although Dave and Rod are no longer rockin’ down here, Charlie, Bryan, Roger and ol’ “Thunder Fingers” MacGregor are keeping the music alive in a way that would certainly make Dave and Rod proud! Cheers! Joe. p.s. Dee, I love the HOH… glad to finally get it in Baltimore! Get back on the Stern show again, that’s the best.

I have been a fan of Foghat for many years. They epitomize great blues rock. I first saw them 30 years ago at the Capitol theatre in PassaicNJ (a real dump – but a great place to see a concert). I actually met Lonesome Dave after a show in Philly a couple of years later – this was before cellphone cameras so I have nothing but my memories to memorialize this encounter. ( I was a 19 year old geek, who probably had his mouth open the whole time) I have been attending concerts sine I saw Led Zep @ MSG & meeting Dave was one of the most exciting rock experiences of my life. I do not have any amazing stories, other than my lone encounter, but I have always loved the music. Honest to goodness full tilt boogie rock n’ roll. That is what Foghat means to me.

I have been Foghat’s biggest fan in the Chicago area since 1975. My first concert was with Bob Seger opening up at the old International Amphitheatre. We took the train downtown from my suburban home in the NW suburbs.Got a Taxi to the show. We saw the best Rock Concert ever. We then waited outside the in the cold (Dec 29th ) for them to come out . Even though they got in the limo and took off it was an ultimate dream for me back then.Un fortunately we missed the train and the only way home was an hour wait away.I have seen Foghat in clubs , festivals too many to name. The last time I took my wife and 14 year old daughter to Beloit Wisconsins Riverfest . What a show, what a festival. I have an autographed Foghat Live album when I met them at The Flipside in Hoffman Estates. It was signed by L.Dave,Rod, Craig, and Roger. I treasure it to this day. It’s very hard for me to pick out a favorite song because I like them all,but Fool for the City set me off.We are going to see them again this year but it has to be in August so I’ll be looking on their webs ite for shows. If I had the money I would pay for BOC and Foghat to come Rock my world.I am the Biggest Foghat fan ever. ” When I was Stone Blue, Rock and Roll Sure Helped Me Through ” Thank You Long Live Foghat

Foghat is part of my life. Back in the early 70s Foghat was my #1 band, and they still are, that has never changed. When I want to feel up, when I want to get down and party, when I want to feel that rock’n'roll “surge”, it’s always Foghat that I put on to play. If I could only listen to one band for the rest of my days, I wouldn’t hesitate to choose Foghat. That’s how much I love Foghat and their special brand of music. To me Foghat IS rock’n'roll. May Lonesome Dave always look down on Foghat from wherever he is, and smile! I’ll never forget you Dave, and I’ll never stop rockin’ to Foghat. Long live Foghat!

Where to start. In high school long ago I wore out 6 cassettes of FOGHAT LIVE. I owned several Fog Hats and many a tee shirts. I traveled 7 states to see Foghat when I was only 16 years20old in 1976. To my surprise when I saw them twice at PortJeffersonHigh School I found they had lived in this area of Long Island NY. I ran into Craig at Mario;s in Setauket and was lucky enough to have a photo I had taken at 1 of their shows in my car. I saw Roger at St CharlesHospital when he was generous enough to sign another photo I happen to have when he was there to have a child. I met Rod in Mass. at a local show many years ago when I traveled up there to see one of the greatest guitar players ever. I have also seen the new Foghat at St Josephs collage and stayed after to meet them. Other times I have seen them in Westbury. It was nothing but spetacular. I do have signed photos of all the members of the band along with old posters and guitar picks. After the St Joseph show I returned the next day as I was a student there and was lucky enough to find a Bryan guitar pick used at the show on the floor. My own personal band covers several Foghat tunes and I can not say enough about the music they have made and how it influenced my whole life. I have been a there greatest fan for over 30 years. I am glad to have a collection of their memoriabelia and have owned every album and many Foghat bootlegs as there truly can never be enough Foghat. Do miss Dave and Rod but there music will live on. Please take the RIDE SLOW and boogie forever. I am and always will be Foghat’s greatest fan.

Foghat has been a part of my life since I was 13. The first 8 trak I ever bought was Foghat Live. In 1980, I was a roadie for my brothers band. At the time, I was learning to play the guitar. I knew 2 songs. Journey “Any Way You Want It”, & Foghat “Slow Ride”. The guitar player was running late one night, so the band asked me to sit in until he showed up. The first song I ever played live was “Slow Ride”. Whenever I’m feeling a little down & need a pick up, I play “Stone Blue” on my stereo with the volume at 9. My wife has told me she’s tired of hearing that song. When I heard that Lonesome Dave passed away, I held a tribute party. Only 6 people showed up, but I played every Foghat song in tribute to an unsung hero of Rock & Roll. I’m the Lighting Director at the Riverside Casino in Laughlin, Nevada. I almost had a dream come true. The production company that I work with, booked Foghat to play at the casino, unfortunately, Lonesome Dave passed away and the show was cancelled. If I had been able to see Foghat live at some point in my life, my life would be complete. Anyway, my life is better because of Foghat. That’s my story & amp; I’m sticking to it!!!!!!!!!!

whyfan: Wow… Where do I begin… I first saw Foghat live in the Pontiac Silverdome with Nugent & Aerosmith back in 1976. I have all the records, cd’s. etc… I cut my R&R teeth with Rod Price! what a guy, RIP. Been a huge fan since 1973!!! Rod, along with Lonesome Dave (another RIP), inspired me to play guitar back then. Now I am a legend in my own mind. :-) “Step Outside” is one of my favorite songs and has made me push myself to do new things in life that maybe I didn’t really want to do. Seriously, I’m definitely the biggest Foghat fan for the sheer number of plays… I’m willing to bet that they are few people on this planet that have listened to you guys more than I! Thanks for rocking me for over 40 years!!!

I have loved foghat from day 1. the music meant tons to me growing up. some songs just get into your soul and speak to you. for instance “stone blue”. one of those songs that take me back and make me realize rock-n-roll DID help me through!! I was and am so happy when i found out a few years ago that a fellow grand rapidian stepped in to replace lonesome dave. Charlie Huhn is the best. I use to see him at a bar faithfully every weekend back when he was with a band called the “vic amato band”. his cover version of all along the watchtower was ssoo good, they played it literally every day on the radio. just taped right in the bar!! it was nice to hear when family joules came out just how well he fit in and remained true to the classic foghat sound. and to see them live!!! whoa man!! they just plain rock your socks off!! So, i am and always will be be foghats, and charlies numero uno fan!!! thanx for the great rock-n-roll guys!! keep it up!! kevin Griffin

Well… I think they are one of the most rockin’ bands ever. Back in the day I went to every Foghat concert within a 300 mile radius of where I lived because they always brought the house down plus I own every single Foghat album ever released. ;) Several years ago they played a show at a large club in Orange Beach, Alabama and20I had the opportunity to talk with Lonesome Dave for a considerable amount of time which to say the least was a tremendous thrill for me especially in light of his unfortunate death after that. I got to ask him things like where they came up with the name Foghat, what had become of Rod Price and all the other band members etc. I must say Dave was the most gracious and nicest person I’ve ever met in a band of their stature. In addition I got to spend a lot of time talking to Brian Basset from Wild Cherry who was playing the guitar at that time and Rick West from Molly Hatchet who was layin’ down the bass. Needless to say it would be virtually impossible for anyone to be a bigger Foghat fan than me! In addition to being a rabid fan I also play the guitar and winning this guitar would just flat out rock my world! ;) regards, Lee

I have loved Foghat ALL my life! Even while Dave and Roger were still with Savoy Brown, I listened to and loved them. When they gave birth to Foghat with Rod and Tony, I was in heaven, they were great! My first concert was a Foghat concert, when I was still in high school. I was addicted. I wore out at least 3 copies of their first album “Foghat”. I started following them everywhere they went in California, even ditching school and hitchhiking to see them perform my favorite songs: “Fool For The City”, “Slow Ride”, “I Just Wanna Make Love To You”, and “Stone Blue”. I was sad when Tony left, but Nick did a great job, and then Craig came on board and was phenomenal. Of course, then founding father Rod left, which was awful, but they recovered, until Dave had to stop for a break, but he came back as hot as ever. I think it was about ‘94 they all got together and started touring again. I was devastated when Dave was diagnosed with cancer, but he gave it a valiant battle. When they found Charlie and he joined it was just awesome the strength and vitality this band still had after so many years!! They will ROCK FOREVER!!!!!

I owe a lot to Foghat, because they are the band that was responsible for turning me into a Hard Rock and Heavy Metal fan. Foghat Live (1977) was the first album I ever purchased. It had the classics Slow Ride, Fool for the City and I just wanna make love to you. It was the album that introduced me to Hard Rock music and classic groove of Foghat. I listened to that album over and over again back in the day, and still have the worn out vinyl in my collection. Foghat is one of the most underrated early Hard Rockin band from the Seventies. They don?t get all the press that some of the other early hard rockin bands from the Seventies do, but they were a band that has had an influence on a lot the Hard Rock and Heavy Metal bands from the eighties and today. I have been fortunate to see Foghat live many times, most recently in 1996, 1997 and 1998. They came out after the show in Minneapolis in 1998 and talked with fans and were very friendly. They came out and delivered a great show every time. It is great to see that band is continuing on and still touring after the loss of Lonesome Dave and is going to be releasing the Foghat Live II Cd, which will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Foghat Live 1977 Album. The first album I ever purchased!!

My first concert was Foghat in 1977 and I have been a big fan ever since. I have seen them a number of times in concert and, needless to say, I have all their albums and CDs (except Live 2, of course). When I was a teenager, my friend and I would lo ok for band tour buses at local restaurants and hotels when they were in town for a show. We waited at one hotel with some of our albums to get autographed and I was wearing my Fog hat. Unbeknown to us, Dave Peverett was in a car about to enter the highway in front of the hotel. He must have seen my Fog hat and the car was put in reverse and he got out and graciously signed all our albums. We were both pretty speechless being young and starstruck, but I was physically speechless after just having jaw surgery and my mouth was wired shut. Unfortunately, my friend never explained to Dave what had happened to me, so he must have thought I was a mute or something. Anyway, it was a memorable moment (if not embarrassing) and I am a fan for life. After the 80’s hard rock/metal scene slowed down, I got into the blues and now I enjoy Foghat blues rock even more. Rock on!! Bill

I love that driving beat that gets your heart pumping. Slow ride is one of everyone’s all time greatest hit I listen to the Live Cd when every I’m doing something like sking it makes you want to go faster and faster. Never miss a show when they are in the area. I’ve seen them four times at DTE, a fair at the Palace, and last year at The Pig Gig in Bay City. I would like to see them team up with Molly Hatchet for a blow out. Kid Rock would show up for that.

OUR GRAND PRIZE WINNER #1:

Kimberly Kucharczyk
Neosho, MO who listens to HOH on KXDG-FM, BIG DOG 97.9 Joplin, MO

Kimberly’s Winning Contest Entry:

I grew up with everyone of these bands! I was 12 years old when I went to my first concert. RATT was the headliner. I had folders for school that looked like LPs with Twisted Sister and Ratt on them. I cried to the ballads, rebelled along with the “in your face” music, and my rock and roll spirit stood strong with Dee during all the PMRC crap.
I am now a 34 year old, recently divorced, single mother of 4 beautiful kids (12, 10, 8, and 4), attending college full-time at Missouri Southern State University (straight A’s and B’s, one year away from my Bachelors degree), working part-time jobs to put myself through school. I wanted to get tickets for this event, as a b-day present to myself. My bday is July 18th. With four kids, I don’t get out much and I REALLY wanted to go to ROCKLAHOMA. This was going to be a major “blow-out the baffles” type weekend for me, a chance to help me re-connect with my inner teenager, a “to hell with the rules and responsibility” thing. But, alas, my bill collectors vetoed my plans.
If by the will of the rock n roll Gods, I am lucky enough to be chosen for this life-defining trip, I can find the me I lost SO long ago! This is going to be an experience to last a lifetime for some lucky person! My sincerest congratulations to whoever is chosen. I can always hope they do it again next year, although there is no time like the first time!
Keep on ROCKIN’! And, Dee, I LOVE the show! I feel like a 16 year-old again everytime I hear those songs! Keep on keepin’ the music alive! No one could do it better!

David’s Winning Contest Entry:

Like many of the loyal listeners, I’m a 40-something guy, married with a couple of kids. I live in suburban MD outside of Baltimore. It’s a pretty normal life…but every once in a while, I’ll hear a rumble from down the road, and it builds and builds until it’s right in front of my house…and it’s my wife rockin’ to her old ’80s hair bands. Her windows are rolled up and she’s alone in the car (okay, so it’s a mini-van) and she is blowin’ her eardrums out! This is the girl I met her first day in college 23 years ago – the one who was listening to Ratt, Poison, Twisted Sister, Motley Crue & Triumph when I was listening to The Stray Cats and Elvis Costello. So, it’s 2007 and a lot of these bands are reuniting. My wife has agreed to go see The Stray Cats, Pretenders, ZZ Top and REO Speedwagon with me. She’s a trooper and the most unselfish person I know. Everyone else always comes first. But at some point she needs to come first. And Rocklahoma is the perfect time – SHE should be your Rocklahoma Grand Prize winner so that she gets to listen to the music she enjoys. She’s put up with me for 16 years and deserves an opportunity to rock like nobody’s watching. I assure you – if she wins, she’ll be headbangin’ like it’s 1987! On top of all that, it would absolutely kill my son (he’s ten and an aspiring rocker – pretty good on Guitar Hero II) to know that his folks are going to a three-day concert, getting a chance to bleed from their ears, meet some stars and party hearty. There is no one more deserving than my wife to be your Grand Prize winner. Shhh – listen – that’s the sound of me clearing the calendar for July 12th through the 16th. I anxiously await your decision and hope to get the word from you that (drumroll please) – RONNA KOROTKIN IS OUR ROCKLAHOMA GRAND PRIZE WINNER!!!
